Wi-Fi Calling Overview

Wi-Fi Calling is a service Sprint offers free of charge. It allows you to make and receive phone calls over most Wi‍-Fi networks.

When Wi-Fi Calling is on, the Wi‍-Fi networks you are connected to will be used for your calls.

You can make calls over a Wi‍-Fi connection even if your wireless signal is low, and best of all, if you have a limited Talk plan, Wi-Fi Calling doesn't count against your minutes.

What is Wi-Fi Calling?

Wi-Fi Calling is a free service that allows you to make and receive phone calls over a Wi‍-Fi network, even when your wireless signal is low. If you have a limited Talk plan, Wi-Fi Calling doesn't count against your minutes. Once connected, you place and receive calls just like normal.

How do I set up Wi-Fi Calling?

You can turn on Wi-Fi Calling from your phone's Settings menu.
  1. From the Home screen, tap , and then find and tap Settings.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi Calling switch to turn it on or off.

How do I know if Wi-Fi Calling is on?

You'll see a Wi-Fi Calling indicator Add in your phone's status bar.

Will all my calls go over Wi‍-Fi?

Calls will be completed over Wi‍-Fi when:
  • You're connected to a Wi‍-Fi network.
  • Wi-Fi Calling is on and the Wi-Fi Calling indicator appears in the status bar.
Note: If the icon appears with a slash through it Show dropdown list icon, the service is not ready to be used. You may need to move closer to the Wi‍-Fi access point to ensure a quality connection.

Can I make and receive Wi‍-Fi calls over a public Wi‍-Fi network?

Yes, many public Wi‍-Fi networks allow Wi‍-Fi calling. Some require extra steps to connect to the network.

Before making calls, ensure your device is connected to the public Wi‍-Fi network and has Internet access. If you are unable to place calls, check your Web browser for additional steps. If you notice poor voice quality on public Wi‍-Fi network, either disable that network or temporarily turn Wi-Fi Calling off.

How do I turn off Wi-Fi Calling?

  1. From the Home screen, tap , and then find and tap Settings.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi Calling switch to turn it off.
    Note: To fully remove Wi-Fi Calling from your Sprint phone, on the Wi-Fi Calling screen, tap > Deactivate Wi-Fi Calling Service.

Can I make Wi‍-Fi calls while roaming internationally?

Yes. Wi-Fi Calling is supported in over 200 countries and territories.
  • Wi‍-Fi calls to the U.S. while travelling internationally are free.
  • Wi‍-Fi calls to a non-U.S. phone number are subject to Sprint international calling rates which vary by country.
  • Wi-Fi Calling is not supported in some countries including: Australia, China, Cuba, North Korea, India, Iran, Singapore, Sudan and Syria. Sprint subscribers are not authorized to use the service in countries where Wi-Fi Calling is prohibited by law.

What happens when I'm in the middle of a call and I leave the Wi‍-Fi network?

Any active call will disconnect if you move outside your current Wi‍-Fi coverage.

How can I prevent Wi-Fi Calling from being used on specific networks?

On the Wi-Fi Calling settings screen, each Wi‍-Fi network has an On/Off slider to allow or prevent Wi-Fi Calling from working on each registered Wi‍-Fi network.
