What should I do if my device gets too warm or hot?

Some heat is perfectly normal, especially when charging or running high-performance apps, though the device should not become too warm to handle comfortably.
  • Make sure there is space around the edges of the device for ventilation. When under load, an internal fan will activate to cool the device.
  • Make sure your device software and all installed apps are up to date, since updates frequently contain performance improvements and may reduce the device's temperature.
  • Avoid using the device in direct sunlight and excessively hot environments for any length of time.
  • Avoid using apps that require a lot of processor or video power for long periods of time.
  • Uninstall any task manager or battery saver apps.
  • Clear all recent apps or reboot the device to make sure background apps are not causing your device to warm up.
  • Use an HTC-branded charger. Third-party chargers may not work correctly and could cause your device to heat up while charging.
  • Check your battery usage to see if any particular apps are typically running when the device heats up. If an app is causing issues, uninstall it.
If your device continues to get uncomfortably warm after confirming all of the above, you may need to perform a factory reset .
Note: Under normal operation your HTC device should never be hot enough to cause burns or other personal injury due to heat generated by your device.

  • A factory reset will erase data, media, and files from the built-in storage. You'll lose them and won't be able to restore them if you didn't sync or back them up before. Make sure you've backed up all important information and files before you proceed.
  • Make sure your HTC device is charged to at least 35% before performing the reset, or is connected to the provided HTC power adapter and is actively charging.
  • Make sure you know your Google Account name and password. You'll need them to unlock your HTC device after the factory reset.

Device Protection is enabled, which means that after the factory reset, you'll need to sign in using the same Google Account that was logged into your device. If you forgot your Google Account password, use your computer web browser and go to www.google.com/accounts/recovery to reset your password first.
