Do not disturb mode

In times when you don't want to be interrupted by your phone, you can turn on Do not disturb mode. This mode can mute sounds, stop vibration, and block visual notifications. You can customize what you want to block and allow.

Here's how to turn Do not disturb mode on or off:

  1. With two fingers, swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings.

  2. Tap the Do Not Disturb.
    Tip: If you don't see the Do Not Disturb tile, swipe to the next screen in the Quick Settings panel to find it.

Hiding or muting notifications

Choose whether to hide pop-up notifications or mute the notification sound.
  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Tap Display options for hidden notifications, and then select an option:
    Option Description
    No sound from notifications Mutes the notification sound but still displays visual notifications.
    No visuals or sound from notifications Prevents visual notifications from appearing and mutes their sound.
    Custom Lets you choose what restrictions to apply when the screen is on or off.

Choosing which notifications to block or allow

Choose what types of notifications you want to block or allow in Do not disturb mode.
  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Under What can interrupt Do Not Disturb, choose any of the following:
    Type Description
    People Block or allow calls, messages, or conversations.
    Apps Choose which apps to allow notifications to show.
    Alarms & other interruptions Block or allow interruptions that make sound such as alarms, touch sounds, or reminders.

Setting exceptions

Set exceptions that can pass through so you can still receive calls or messages from certain contacts.
  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Tap People.
  3. Choose your exceptions:
    Type Options
    Conversations Allow All conversations or Priority conversations to pass through.

    Tip: Tap Settings icon, select a contact name or number, and then tap Priority. The selected contact will be added under Priority conversations.

    Calls

    Receive calls from Anyone, Contacts, or Starred contacts.

    Tip: Turn on Repeat callers to allow calls to pass through if the same contact calls twice in 15 minutes.

    Messages Receive messages from Anyone, Contacts, or Starred contacts.

Setting various schedules

You can set various schedules of when to turn Do Not Disturb mode on and off and customize settings for each schedule.
  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Tap Schedules.
  3. Customize settings for the following default types of schedules:
    Schedule type Steps
    Sleeping

    Set a Do Not Disturb mode schedule for bedtime.

    1. Select Sleeping. Then tap Settings icon next to the option.
    2. Set the days, start time, and end time when to enable and disable Do Not Disturb mode.
    Event

    Set a Do Not Disturb mode schedule for meetings or calendar events.

    1. Select Event. Then tap Settings icon next to the option.
    2. Tap During events for, and then choose which calendar you want to apply the schedule to.
    3. Tap Where reply is. Then choose which calendar events your schedule will apply to: events you've replied to with "‍Yes"‍, "‍Yes or Maybe,"‍ or all events.
    Driving Select this option to automatically turn on Do Not Disturb when you're in a moving vehicle.
  4. To create more schedules, tap Add more and choose whether to create an Event or Time schedule. Then customize the settings for your schedule.
Tip: To set exceptions for a schedule, tap Do Not Disturb behavior. Select Create custom settings for this, and then tap Settings icon.

Setting a duration for Do Not Disturb mode

If you just need Do Not Disturb mode for one-time use, you can set a duration for it instead of creating a schedule.
  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Tap Duration for Quick Settings.
  3. Choose how long you want Do Not Disturb mode to stay on and tap OK.
  4. Open the Quick Settings panel and tap Do not disturb to turn it on.
Note: The duration setting only works when using the Do not disturb tile in Quick Settings.
