Why does the weather clock widget show that weather and location are unavailable?

When you turn on your phone for the first time—or after a factory reset—weather and location information is unavailable because the Weather app doesn't have permissions, by default, to access your location. To protect user privacy, the Android system requires apps to request location permissions before they can access your location.

Here's how to enable location permissions in the Weather app:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Notifications panel.
  2. Tap twice on the Weather requests permissions notification.
  3. To allow Weather to access your device's location all the time, tap Allow in settings, and then select Allow all the time.
Tip: If you don't see the Weather requests permissions notification, open Settings from the Home screen. Then tap Location > App location permissions > Weather and select Allow all the time.
