What should I do if my phone will not charge?

Typically when a phone is charging, the screen will display a charging icon, either in the status bar if the phone is powered on, or in the center of the screen if the phone is powered off.
The notification LED will also light up.

If the phone doesn't appear to be charging, it is important to check all of the charging components to find the cause.

  • Try charging your phone using a wall outlet, and not a USB charger. Some computers will disable charging via USB ports to conserve energy, which can prevent the phone from charging.
  • Make sure the wall outlet is providing power to the charger by testing another powered device in the socket.
  • Use the original HTC-branded charger and charging cable that came with your phone. Third-party chargers and cables may not work correctly and could damage your phone.
  • Make sure there's no damage, for example, kinks or frays in the cord, bent connectors, etc., to the charger or cable.
  • Check the charging port on your phone for any damage to the pins or other hardware components, and carefully clean out any debris or pocket lint.
After checking all the components, turn your phone off completely by pressing the POWER and tapping Power off, and then plug it in to the charger and wait 2-3 minutes. If the battery is completely drained, it may take up to 2 minutes for the phone to appear to be charging.

If the phone doesn't appear to be charging and will not power on, connect the phone to the charger, and then hold down the VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN, and POWER buttons for up to 2 minutes. This will force the phone to reboot and resume charging normally.

Note: Some phone models may not have a notification LED.
