Taking portraits or selfies

Use these features to capture great-looking portraits or selfies.

Bokeh effect

In Portrait mode, you can take portrait shots or selfies with a nice blurred background.
Important:
  • To get a nice blurred background in portrait shots, keep a distance of 2 meters (7 ft) between you and your subject.
  • You need to be in a well-lit environment.
  • Some features such as HDR, zooming, and flash are not available in Portrait mode.
  1. On the Home screen, tap the camera icon to open the Camera app.
  2. Switch to Portrait mode. See Choosing a capture mode.
  3. Tap Switch camera button to switch between the front and main cameras.
  4. Point the main camera at your subject, or pose at the front camera if you're taking a selfie. what
  5. Tap Aperture icon, and then set the aperture. A smaller aperture value increases the blur in the background.

HDR

When shooting subjects against a bright background or sceneries with bright skies and shaded landscapes, use HDR, short for High Dynamic Range, to take your photos. HDR brings out the details of both highlights and shadows, even in high contrast lighting.
Important: HDR works best when your subject is steady. The camera takes multiple shots at different exposure levels and combines them into one enhanced photo.
  1. Switch to Photo mode, if you're not in this mode. See Choosing a capture mode for details.
  2. Tap HDR toggle icon to switch between HDR auto, on, and off modes.
  3. Frame the subject or scenery you want to capture.

Unflipping photo selfies

When you view yourself on the Viewfinder screen, your selfie is actually a mirrored image. Here's what to do if your captured photo looks flipped and is not the mirrored image.
  1. Switch to Photo mode, if you're not in this mode. See Choosing a capture mode for details.
  2. Tap Switch camera button to switch to the front camera.
  3. Tap Camera Settings icon.
  4. Make sure the Save mirrored selfies option is turned on.
