Why is my phone talking to me? How do I turn this off?

You may have accidentally turned TalkBack on when you began phone setup. TalkBack is designed to give voice feedback to those who have visual impairment.If you accidentally turned TalkBack on during phone setup, you can turn it off.

For phones with Android 8 or later, you can turn TalkBack off immediately. When you see the Turn off TalkBack button, tap it once, and then double tap anywhere on the screen to disable TalkBack.

For phones with Android 6 or 7:

1. On the phone setup screen, draw an "‍L"‍ with your finger to display TalkBack controls.
2. Tap Pause feedback, and then double-tap to pause TalkBack.
3. Tap the OK button, and then double-tap the screen to suspend TalkBack.
4. Tap Accessibility settings. If you don't see this button, you may need to tap Vision settings or Tools first.
5. Tap TalkBack, and then tap the On/Off switch to turn TalkBack off.
6. Tap BACK to return to the language screen.
