HTC Wins Taiwan National Sustainable Development Award for Second Consecutive Year

HTC is the only company to receive the Taiwan National Sustainable Development Award in both 2023 and 2024, and was also granted the prestigious TCSA Climate Leadership Award.

HTC Corporation, a global leader in Extended Reality (XR) and smartphones, announced today that it has received the prestigious 2024 “National Sustainable Development Award” for the second year in a row in recognition of its ESG achievements. Following last year’s award in the Corporate category, HTC once again stood out amid intense competition, becoming the only company in Taiwan to earn the prestigious recognition in both 2023 and 2024. In addition, the company also received the “Climate Leadership Award” at the 2024 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) ceremony hosted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) on November 20. Together, these honors highlight HTC’s steadfast commitment to a low-carbon future.

National Recognition for HTC’s Sustainability Achievements

The NSDA award, which is granted by the National Sustainable Development Committee of the Executive Yuan, recognizes institutions that excel in promoting sustainable development. This year, 162 organizations competed, with only 25 selected after rigorous evaluations across three stages. HTC earned high praise for its achievements, including:

1. Pioneering Carbon Management:

• The first company in Asia to complete ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas verification for parent and subsidiary companies through Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, and did so four years ahead of regulations.
• Achieved ISO 14067 product carbon footprint verification for VIVE XR Elite.

2. Strong Sustainability Ratings:

• Listed in the FTSE4Good Index Series for three consecutive years.
• Received a Silver rating from EcoVadis for three consecutive years.

3. Reduced Carbon Footprint:

• Innovations in energy-efficient design for HTC products, as well as high-recycled packaging, lower transport emissions, and solar power expansion.

4. Cultural Sustainability:

• VIVE Arts uses VR technology to preserve cultural heritage, showcasing a new model for sustainable development.

The National Sustainable Development Award ceremony will be held on December 19th 2024, with Premier Cho Jung-tai presenting the awards.

Environmental Leadership: the “Climate Leadership Award”

At the 2024 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, HTC received the “Climate Leadership Award” for its efforts in carbon reduction. The award recognizes companies that excel in climate change mitigation, energy management, and innovative ESG practices. Competing against 526 other companies, HTC’s initiatives — including climate change risk assessment, full-spectrum greenhouse gas verification for parent and subsidiary companies, and securing Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approval for net-zero goals—stood out.

HTC’s six-pronged carbon reduction strategy, which led it to win the “Climate Leadership Award”, includes:

• Carbon management policies
• Low-carbon operations
• Low-carbon products
• Sustainable transportation
• Value chain engagement
• Carbon offset

These efforts align with international standards and position HTC as a leader in sustainability, inspiring other Taiwanese companies to actively participate in environmental programs.

Enhancing ESG for a Sustainable Future

HTC has made innovation a key driver of its ESG initiatives, as the company works to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key highlights include:

• Environmental Initiatives: Developing low-carbon, eco-friendly products and pioneering energy-efficient technologies.
• Social Inclusion: Promoting educational equity through VR by providing remote students access to learning resources, thus bridging the urban-rural gap.
• Governance: Enhancing transparency and fostering a resilient, responsible business model.

HTC’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Madeline Chen, said, “These honors are a tremendous encouragement to HTC in our sustainability journey. Our most important realization is that integrating ESG principles into our core business is the key to balancing growth and sustainability. By simulating potential carbon footprints during product development, we can select environmentally friendly materials from the start, reducing carbon costs and enhancing product competitiveness.”

These awards are a significant achievement and an important step forward in our sustainability journey. Moving forward, HTC remains committed to addressing global sustainability challenges, and to making meaningful contributions to environmental protection and societal progress.
