HTC Wins National Sustainable Development Award, is Recognized for Green Innovation and Sustainability Practices

At Taiwan’s prestigious National Sustainable Development Award ceremony on December 19th 2024, HTC was honored with the "113th National Sustainable Development Award" in the corporate category, as presented by Premier Cho Jung-tai and accepted on behalf of HTC’s Chief Sustainability Officer Madeline Chen. HTC is the only company to win this award for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, affirming its ongoing efforts in sustainable development and its outstanding performance in green innovation and sustainability, delivering concrete solutions for global sustainable development.

Sustainability Requires Collective Effort for a Healthy Taiwan

In his speech at the award ceremony, Premier Cho Jung-tai said, “The nation's sustainable development is at a critical juncture, requiring collaboration between central and local governments as well as partnerships between the public and private sectors.” He further stated, “Sustainable development is a global issue and a shared consensus. We aim to achieve a triple-win scenario: thriving industries, a healthy and sustainable environment, and happiness and well-being for our people.” Premier Cho Jung-tai noted the innovative sustainability strategies and future blueprints presented by award recipients across different fields, which will serve as reference for government policy planning to promote a healthy, balanced, and sustainable Taiwan.

Deepening Sustainability Through Green Innovation

HTC has long supported efforts such as green operations, low-carbon product design, and cultural sustainability, which holistically demonstrate its commitment to global sustainability. The company exceeded greenhouse gas verification regulations four years ahead of schedule and has supported digital preservation and heritage projects through VIVE Arts, providing guidance for national sustainability policy planning.

HTC’s Chief Sustainability Officer Madeline Chen said, “Participating in the National Sustainable Development Award process was a comprehensive review of our sustainability efforts over the past year, ensuring we meet societal and national expectations.” Over the past year HTC has achieved numerous breakthroughs in sustainability, including passing the SBTi net-zero target verification, becoming the fifth technology hardware and equipment company in Taiwan to do so. HTC was also the first in Asia to complete ISO 14064 and ISO 14067 product carbon footprint verification using Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, earning unanimous praise from the judges.

HTC’s Sustainability Achievements Receive National Recognition

The National Sustainable Development Award, hosted by the National Sustainable Development Commission of the Executive Yuan, is one of the highest honors in the field of sustainability in Taiwan. This year, out of 162 participating organizations, only 25 enterprises were selected as winners. HTC’s accomplishments were highly lauded by the judges, including:

• The first company in Asia to complete ISO 14064-1 organizational greenhouse gas verification for parent and subsidiary companies using Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability as foundation of HTC’s Carbon Management Platform, thus achieving regulatory compliance four years ahead of schedule. Additionally, HTC completed ISO 14067 product carbon footprint verification with Carbon Management Platform for its VIVE XR Elite headset.
• Strong performance in international sustainability rankings: HTC has been included in the FTSE4Good Index Series for three consecutive years and received a Silver Medal from the EcoVadis Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
• Significant progress in product and operational decarbonization: Initiatives include energy-efficient product design, high recycling rates for packaging, substantial reductions in transportation-related carbon emissions, and continued expansion of solar power facilities.
• Cultural sustainability innovation: VIVE Arts leverages VR technology to provide new perspectives for cultural heritage preservation and transmission, creating a novel model for cultural sustainability development, which impressed the judges.
