My phone is performing slowly
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • Applications take a longer than expected time to open.
  • Your phone takes longer than expected time to complete actions (such as swiping screens, or navigating settings).
  • Keyboard or other inputs are delayed before they appear on screen.
  • Your phone generally performs slower than expected.
If the internal or SD card storage of the phone becomes full, it may cause certain actions that use or access the storage to perform slowly. You may need to remove some apps or files. Follow these steps:
  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Downloaded and tap the application you want to remove.
  3. Tap Uninstall.
  4. Search for and delete unused files. Go to Settings > Storage. Tap Make more space.
Power cycling your phone may help to solve the issue. Follow these steps:
  1. Press and hold the POWER button until the Phone Options appear.
  2. Tap Power Off and wait for the phone to fully turn off.
  3. Wait for a few moments, and then turn the phone on by pressing and holding the POWER button.
Ensure the phone is fully updated. Follow these steps:
  1. Go to Settings > About > Software updates. The exact path may differ depending on your phone.

    These are the typical paths:

    • Settings > About > Software updates
    • Settings > System updates > HTC software update
    • Settings > AT&T Software Update
  2. Tap Check now to check for updates.
    • If an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions.
    • If no update is found, confirm the phone is on the latest software version. Go to Settings > About > Software information.

Clearing the data cache may resolve the issue. See How to wipe your cache partition.

A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues.

Note: Factory Reset Protection may be enabled. Before taking the following steps, ensure you have the login information of the main Google account that is logged into the phone or you will be unable to use the phone.
  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset or Reset phone.
  3. Tap Reset phone or OK.
