I can't turn off Safe Mode
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • 'Safe mode' displays on bottom of the Home screen.
  • You can't make calls or receive calls or access the Internet.
  • Some third-party apps do not start.
Safe mode can be activated automatically for these reasons:
  • Third-party app preventing the device from starting
  • Case touches the buttons
  • Accidentally touching the buttons while the device is starting
  • Buttons are stuck
  • Phone is connected to USB cable and encounters an error
  • Device is rooted
Restarting the device and pressing no buttons should turn off Safe mode. Follow these steps:
  1. Verify the phone is unplugged and not charging.
  2. Remove the SIM card.
  3. Wait 20 seconds, and then re-insert the SIM card.
  4. If using a case, make sure that your case does not press any buttons.
  5. Press each button a few times, to check they are not stuck.
  6. Turn on your phone. Do not press any button while it starts up.
  7. If your phone starts in Safe mode, uninstall all recently downloaded apps.
  8. Restart your phone.
Note: If your phone starts normally, the issue was with an app. See My apps are not working.
  9. Wipe the cache partition. See How to wipe your cache partition.
A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues.
Note: Factory Reset Protection may be enabled. Before taking the following steps, ensure you have the login information of the main Google account that is logged into the phone or you will be unable to use the phone.
  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset or Reset phone.
  3. Tap Reset phone or OK.
