I'm having problems taking good photos
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • Blurry or unfocused photos
  • Excessive noise, pixelation, or grainy texture in pictures
  • Loss of detail in photos
  • Poor image quality when taking photos in low light
  • Overexposed or “‍washed out” images
  • Halo effect around high contrast areas in photos
  • Images are too bright or too dark
  • Camera app freezing, being slow, or stuck on a black screen
Taking great photos depends on using the best settings for the situation. The speed of the action, the available light, and how much of the scene you want to capture, are all important when choosing camera settings. Swipe through the pre-set options in your camera to preview how your photo may look. You'll find useful settings for situations like portrait, outdoor, and action photography. Check the following:
  • Ensure that all camera related parts are clean. Remove any residue with a clean soft cloth.
  • Remove anything covering any part of the camera lens.
  • Turn off Auto HDR when taking pictures of moving objects.
  • Tap on an area away from your main target, then tap on your target again. This should bring the target back into focus.
  • Adjust the brightness of the photo in the camera settings.
  • Do not use the digital zoom when taking photos.

If the Camera app is unresponsive, you may need to take further steps.

Power cycling your phone may help to solve the issue. Follow these steps:
  1. Press and hold the POWER button until the Phone Options appear.
  2. Tap Power Off and wait for the phone to fully turn off.
  3. Wait for a few moments, and then turn the phone on by pressing and holding the POWER button.

Clearing the data cache may resolve the issue. See How to wipe your cache partition.

A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues.

Note: Factory Reset Protection may be enabled. Before taking the following steps, ensure you have the login information of the main Google account that is logged into the phone or you will be unable to use the phone.
  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset or Reset phone.
  3. Tap Reset phone or OK.
