My phone feels warm or hot, is it overheating?
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • Your phone feels uncomfortably warm when turned on.
  • Your phone gets too hot to touch when in use.
You may feel your phone is heating up despite not being left in the sun or near another heat source. Your phone will heat up slightly as a result of normal use, but if you feel it is uncomfortably warm or too hot to touch then the steps in this article may help.
Follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall any third-party battery manager or ‘task-killer’ applications.
  2. Clear recent applications.
  3. Restart the phone.
  4. Reduce the number of widgets used on the Home screens.
Ensure the phone is fully updated. Follow these steps:
  1. Go to Settings > About > Software updates. The exact path may differ depending on your phone.

    These are the typical paths:

    • Settings > About > Software updates
    • Settings > System updates > HTC software update
    • Settings > AT&T Software Update
  2. Tap Check now to check for updates.
    • If an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions.
    • If no update is found, confirm the phone is on the latest software version. Go to Settings > About > Software information.

Check if the issue occurs when the phone is in Safe Mode. If not, the issue is likely caused by an application in use while the phone is not in Safe Mode. Most third-party app issues can be resolved by updating the app or the phone.

Follow these steps:
  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon and select My apps & games.
  3. Tap Installed. You'll see a list of apps installed on your phone.
  4. Tap the app you want to update.
Note: To apply all available app updates, tap Update All.
  5. Tap Update.
  6. If prompted, tap Accept.

A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues.

Note: Factory Reset Protection may be enabled. Before taking the following steps, ensure you have the login information of the main Google account that is logged into the phone or you will be unable to use the phone.
  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset or Reset phone.
  3. Tap Reset phone or OK.
