My microphone isn't working
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • You cannot be heard on calls
  • Static or popping sounds on every call and/or sound recording
  • Voice commands do not function properly
Something may be blocking the sound from you to the microphone. Check the following:
  • Confirm the microphone is clear of debris.
  • Confirm the microphone is not blocked.
  • For the location of the microphones on a phone, please see the user guide that came with your phone, or download a copy from our support page at http://www.htc.com/support.
Power cycling your phone may help to solve the issue. Follow these steps:
  1. Press and hold the POWER button until the Phone Options appear.
  2. Tap Power Off and wait for the phone to fully turn off.
  3. Wait for a few moments, and then turn the phone on by pressing and holding the POWER button.
If the phone has two microphones (primary and secondary), follow this checklist:
  • If the issue occurs on calls but not on speakerphone, the issue is with the primary microphone.
  • If the issue only occurs while using applications that record audio, the issue is with the secondary microphone.
  • If the issue occurs within both of the above, the issue may be related to the speakers and not the microphone(s).
The issue may be related to the application being used. Follow these steps to check if the issue is application-related:
  1. Make a call using an alternate method, such as using third-party VOIP applications (Example: Google Voice or Skype™ calls). If the issue only occurs while making calls on the carrier network, the issue is not caused by the microphone. If the issue occurs while on calls, confirm the issue occurs on every call.
  2. Boot the device into Safe Mode and see if the microphone issues persists on phone calls . Safe Mode prevents third-party applications from functioning and is useful when troubleshooting issues caused by installed apps or services.

The Diagnostic Tool may also help identify any hardware issues. See How to use the Diagnostic Tool.
