I'm having problems getting touch tones (DTMF) to work

You may be experiencing any of these issues:

  • Touch tones are not recognized when you enter them during a call to an automated voice system
  • Touch tones are not recognized while you are on a conference call

NOTE: Touch tones are not recognized by voicemail or IVR systems (Banks, Retail vendor, Support, etc.).

The issue may be with the system you are trying to contact. If the issue happens with only one automated system, but others work correctly, contact that company's support for assistance.

Make sure you are not attempting to use touch tones while on a conference or 3-way call. Touch tones may not work when connected to more than one phone call at a time.

If using an Android device, follow these steps to turn off audible touch tones:

  1. Tap the app launcher.
  2. Navigate to Settings, Sounds.
On some phones this path may appear as Sound and Display.
  3. Verify the check box for the following features is unchecked:

    Audible Touch Tones
    Key Tones
Dial Pad Touch Tones (or a similar name)

Check that you are using the latest software version for your phone. Ensure the phone is fully updated, by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System Updates. The exact path will differ depending on your phone.
These are the three typical paths:

Settings > System updates > HTC software update
    Settings > Software update
    Settings > AT&T Software Update

  2. Select HTC Software Update to check for new updates.
If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
If no update is found, confirm the device is on the latest software version by navigating to Settings > About > Software Information.
