HTC Joins Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures to Increase Environmental Transparency

Taipei, Taiwan – Mar 01, 2023 - HTC was founded on the principles of humanity, technology, and innovation. As a global leader in immersive and connected technologies, we are proud to share the most recent strides we have made in our global ESG efforts in commitment to these ideals.

HTC is proud to announce that it is now a supporter of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), as part of its ongoing effort to increase industry awareness and transparency around the risks posed by climate change. In joining TCFD, HTC takes a concrete step towards its environmental sustainability goal of net zero.

HTC joins more than 4,000 organizations around the world which have announced their support for TCFD, including more than 120 organizations in Taiwan. HTC will publish an independent TCFD report for the first time in 2023, making it one of the very few companies in Taiwan that publishes an independent report as opposed to including the information in its annual ESG report.

HTC has been taking steps across its entire business to push the boundaries of sustainability. With the release of its latest product, VIVE XR Elite, the packaging is 100% recyclable, 99.99% is made of paper material, and 99% of the packaging is produced from recycled materials.

TCFD was established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in 2015, with the goal of improving transparency around climate-related risks and opportunities so investors can make environmentally responsible financial decisions. In 2017, TCFD officially issued its disclosure recommendations, including four core elements: Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, Metrics and Targets. At the same time, TCFD also identified climate-related physical risks and transition risks (such as extreme weather events), as well as new opportunities created by climate change (such as market preference for low-carbon products) to re-examine the impact of the climate on corporate financial performance.

HTC is fully committed to environmental sustainability. In 2022, the company was awarded the "Silver Grade of ESG Report - Information and Communication Industry - Second Category" from the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA). HTC also received a silver medal from EcoVadis, one of the world’s most trusted business sustainability organizations. Additionally, FTSE Russell, one of the three major global ESG index providers, announced that HTC has satisfied the requirements to become a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series.
