HTC Strengthens Commitment to ESG

Taipei, Taiwan – Dec 28, 2022 - HTC was founded on the principles of humanity, technology, and innovation. As a global leader in immersive and connected technologies, we are proud to share the most recent strides we have made in our global ESG efforts in commitment to these ideals.

Progress in 2021

In 2021, we made significant advances in curtailing our emissions footprint. HTC's total carbon emissions in 2021 totaled 10,054 tons of CO2e, of which direct greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by about 47% compared to the previous year, while indirect greenhouse gas emissions from electricity usage decreased by roughly 15%. Moving forward, HTC will continue to share the highlights of its ESG program with the world, to help foster a responsible corporate community. HTC joined the CDP, the largest international carbon emission disclosure organization around the world, in 2008. CDP helps companies and cities disclose their environmental impact in three major areas: Climate Change, Water, and Forests. HTC has voluntarily disclosed information about our climate risks, future development opportunities, emissions, and strategic management mechanisms. In 2021, a total of 13,126 companies around the world submitted a climate change questionnaire to CDP, from which HTC scored an “A” ranking in the “Emission reduction initiatives” category. Likewise, for the 2021 CDP Supplier Engagement Rating (SER), HTC received a “B” ranking, with the international average being “B-“.

Momentum in 2022

In 2022, HTC received recognition for its sustainability efforts from several prominent organizations.

HTC participated in the 2022 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award (TCSA) and was awarded the "Silver Grade of ESG Report - Information and Communication Industry - Second Category". The award, granted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), aims to encourage companies to tackle corporate sustainability issues and disclose corporate governance information, to help maintain sustainable development and work towards a cleaner environment and a healthier society. The "Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards" (TCSA) have been held for the past 15 years, with a total of 874 judges invited to participate in the selection in 2022.

In April 2022, HTC received a silver medal from EcoVadis, one of the world’s most trusted business sustainability organizations. The ranking puts HTC in EcoVadis’ top 15% out of more than 90,000 companies around the world, and in the top 11% as a manufacturer of communications equipment. Furthermore, HTC ranked among the top 5% in the "Sustainable Procurement" category, and in the top 13% in the "Environment" category.

Additionally, FTSE Russell, one of the three major global ESG index providers, recently announced that HTC has satisfied the requirements to become a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series. The FTSE4Good Index Series is designed to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.

HTC’s commitment to sustainability extends to its employee culture. HTC celebrated Earth Day 2022 with a one-hour lights-off event across all of its core Taiwan offices, with an estimated carbon reduction of around 150 kg CO2e.

HTC is dedicated to continuing its ESG initiatives across the entire company, and contributing to global sustainability. We look forward to sharing our next advances in ESG.
