Why don't I hear incoming call and text message notifications while I'm in a call?

If your phone is running Android 7.1 , it will automatically enable Do not disturb mode while you're in a call.
Note: You will still hear incoming call and text message notifications when you're in a call and your phone is in speakerphone mode or you're using the supplied earphones.

If you want to hear notifications for reminders, events, incoming calls, and text messages while in a call, you can adjust the Do not disturb settings.

  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Sound and notification.
  2. Tap Do not disturb > Priority only allows.
  3. Do the following:
    • To hear reminder and event notifications, tap the On/Off switches next to Reminders and Events.
    • To hear incoming call and text message notifications from anyone, tap Messages from and Calls from and then select Anyone.
    • To hear incoming call and text message notifications from certain contacts, tap Manage approved contacts and then add those contacts to the approved contacts list. After updating your approved contacts list, tap BACK, tap Messages from and Calls from, and then select Approved contacts only.
    • To hear the call notification of the same person's second call, tap the On/Off switch next to Repeat callers.
