I'm having trouble with my phone's display

You may be experiencing any of these issues:

  • Content on the display is distorted
  • Display does not rotate with the phone
  • Display rotates unintentionally
  • Display turns off during use
  • Display is too bright, dark, or brightness changes
  • Screen is dark after completing a call

Users may report issues with their phone display. The root causes of display issues can vary and it is important to verify if the issue is related to the settings, content or application being used, or the phone hardware. Issues with the display brightness or screen rotating are usually resolved by verifying and adjusting the display options of the phone. If the issue only occurs with content being streamed or viewed online, it is recommended to use locally stored content for troubleshooting purposes.

If the issue is related to minor software issues restarting the phone may resolve the issue.

  1. Hold the POWER button until the Power options appear.
  2. Select Power Off and wait until the phone powers down completely.
  3. After a few moments of the phone being powered off, hold the POWER button to power the phone back on.

Check to see if the issue with the display persists when viewing multiple pictures, videos, or in multiple applications.

If the device does not rotate or rotates unintentionally, verify and adjust the auto-rotate settings of the phone.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Display & Gestures.
  2. Check or uncheck the option for Auto-Rotate based on preference.

If the display is too bright or dark, or the display brightness changes unintentionally, verify and adjust the phone's brightness settings.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Display & Gestures.
  2. Select Brightness Level.
  3. Adjust the settings using the Brightness Level slider bar to a preferred setting.
  4. Check or uncheck the option for Automatic Brightness based on preference.
NOTE: When the Automatic Brightness option is enabled, the phone will grow darker or brighter depending on the surroundings. The Brightness Level slider controls the base brightness of the phone's screen.

While on a call, the proximity sensor will darken the screen of the phone when it detects it is near the users face to prevent accidental input while on a call. If the screen remains dark after completing a phone call, verify the proximity sensor of the phone is functioning properly.

  1. Open the Phone application and go to the dialer.
  2. Open the HTC Function Test by dialing *#*#3424#*#*.
  3. Check the box for P-Sensor Test and then touch Run.
  4. Follow the directions on the screen to test the proximity sensor.
