My apps are not working

You may be experiencing any of these issues:

  • App does not launch
  • App crashes or force closes during use
  • App does not work as intended
  • App freezes or does not respond

Most third-party app-related issues can be resolved by updating the app or the phone. Follow these steps to update your apps:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon and select My apps & games.
  3. Check which apps listed under Updates on the Installed tab have available updates for them.
To update all apps, tap Update All to begin downloading and installing all available app updates.
To individually update apps, tap the app, and then tap Update.

Other third-party app-related issues can be resolved by power cycling your phone. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold POWER until the Phone Options appear.
  2. Select Power Off and wait for the phone to fully turn off.
  3. Wait for a few moments, and then power the phone on by pressing and holding the POWER button.

Clearing a pre-installed or third-party app's data removes user data associated with the app, and may resolve issues with the app.
NOTE: This action will delete any settings, saved information, or other configurations of the app.

Follow these steps to clear app data:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > and locate the app that is experiencing the issue. The Apps section may sort the installed applications into multiple tabs. If the application is not found in the current tab, swipe left or right to explore the other tabs.
NOTE: Not all phones and Android versions have multiple tabs.
  2. Select Clear Data, then select OK to confirm the selection.

For pre-installed apps, first check if the app is disabled. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > find the App that is experiencing the issue.
  2. If the application is disabled, select Enable.

Some pre-installed apps are updated during phone software updates. To ensure the device is fully updated, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings and select System Updates. The exact path will differ depending on your phone.
These are the three typical paths:

Settings > System updates > HTC software update
    Settings > Software update
    Settings > AT&T Software Update

  2. Select HTC Software Update to check for new updates.
If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
If no update is found, confirm the phone is on the latest software version by navigating to Settings > About > Software Information.

A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues. See How to factory reset a device.
