I'm having trouble with my hands-free Bluetooth headset
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • Your Bluetooth headset is not responding.
  • Your Bluetooth headset sound quality is unacceptable.
  • Your Bluetooth headset does not function properly.
  • The headset that came with a Sony Z2 device does not work with your phone.
  • Your Bluetooth stops working over your car speakers.
 
NOTE: Headset models from many manufacturers work with HTC phones with varying degrees of stability and quality. The headset that is bundled with the Sony Z2 phone has a proprietary pin that is not compatible with your phone, regardless if Boomsound is on or off.
 
Low battery power can degrade audio performance. Make sure the battery levels of the Bluetooth headset and your phone are at least one quarter of a full charge.
 
The distance between your Bluetooth headset and your phone can also cause audio issues. Follow these steps to keep the headset and phone at a suitable distance:
 
  1. Keep the Bluetooth headset within ten feet from your phone. Preferably, the two should always be near each other, in contact with your body.
  2. If there is some distance between the Bluetooth headset and your phone, avoid obstructions from furniture and walls between them.
  3. If you have a single ear bud style Bluetooth headset, keep it on the same side of your body as the phone.
 
NOTE: If the headset falls out of effective range from the phone and then gets closer again, the Bluetooth link may not be automatically re-established and you will need to re-connect.
 
Poor signal or signal interference can cause audio issues. Follow these steps to improve your phone's signal:
 
  1. Avoid radio interference from Wi-Fi access points by moving away from Wi-Fi transmitting devices.
  2. Turn off non-essential Bluetooth transmitters in computers or elsewhere.
  3. Step away from any currently running microwave ovens.
    Your HTC phone should show four bars of signal in the upper right corner of the screen.
 
Updating your phone's software system can also solve some issues. Ensure the phone is fully updated, by following these steps:
 
  1. Navigate to Settings > System Updates. The exact path will differ depending on your phone. 
    These are the three typical paths:

    Settings > System updates > HTC software update
    Settings > Software update
    Settings > AT&T Software Update

  2. Select HTC Software Update to check for new updates.
    If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
    If no update is found, confirm the device is on the latest software version by navigating to Settings > About > Software Information.  

If your Bluetooth stops working over your car speakers and enters privacy mode follow these steps:

 

  1. Un-pair and re-pair your phone.
  2. If possible, remove and replace your phone's battery.

 

NOTE: This issue seems to happen with Ford Sync and some other built-in Bluetooth car systems. The issue seems to be that something on the phone is forcing the car kit into privacy mode. Please check with your car's manufacturer for further assistance.
