How to boot into Safe Mode

Safe Mode prevents third-party applications from functioning and is useful when troubleshooting issues caused by installed apps or services.

To boot your device into Safe Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Hold the POWER button, then tap and hold Power Off.
  2. Tap OK to reboot into Safe Mode.

If this is successful, text in the bottom corner of the screen will display Safe Mode. Follow these steps if you do not see that text:

  1. Power the device off by holding the POWER button and selecting Power Off.
  2. Turn the device on, and wait for the first splash screen to appear.
  3. Hold the VOLUME DOWN button as soon as the first splash screen displays, until the device has finished loading the home screen.

If this is successful, text in the bottom corner of the screen will display Safe Mode. Check if the issue you are investigating still occurs when in this mode.

If the issue does not occur, it may be caused by recently installed third-party apps. You could uninstall or reinstall these apps, or contact the app developer for assistance. See My apps are not working for more information.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode, it could be an issue that affects the phone's default application or operating system. A factory data reset can resolve some software issues. See How to factory reset a device.
