What can I do with Motion Gestures?

You can use motion gestures to mute your phone, lower the ring volume, and more.

If your phone is facing up when a call comes in, turn the phone over to mute it. Follow these steps to set up mute control:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Sound & notification.
  2. Tap Flip to mute.
  3. You can now set your phone to:

Mute once: Mute only once after flipping the phone. While the phone is still facing down, it will ring again when there are other incoming calls.
Mute always: After flipping the phone to mute a call, keep it always muted while it's still facing down when there are other incoming calls.

In a business meeting or restaurant, pick up your phone when a call comes in to lower the ring volume automatically. Follow these steps to set up ring volume lowering:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Sound & notification.
  2. Toggle Quiet ring on pickup to select your preference.

Pocket mode lets your phone recognize when it is in your bag or pocket, and raise the ring volume so that you can hear it in noisy environments. Follow these steps to turn this feature on or off:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Sound & notification.
  2. Toggle Pocket mode to select your preference.

For many screens, you can automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning your phone sideways. When entering text, you can also turn your phone sideways to bring up a bigger keyboard.
