I received the error "Media not found" when opening an MMS photo

You may experience any of the following issues:

  • You receive the error message "Media Not Found" when opening an MMS photo.
  • A Google photo app called Photos appears as an option when you try to open a picture received via MMS.

These issues are typically caused by the Google Photos app being set as the default photo viewer. Follow these steps to reset the default photo viewer to your phone's Gallery app:

  1. Drag down the notification bar with two fingers and tap on Settings.
  2. Navigate to Apps > ALL > Google+.
  3. Tap Clear Defaults.
  4. Try to open the MMS attachment again. When prompted, do not choose the Photos app; select Gallery instead.

If the issue persists, it is aslo likely caused by a network issue when downloading the attachment. Check that you are connected to a network (see I'm having problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network), or try to download the attachment later.

NOTE: On newer HTC devices running on Sense 7 onwards, the Gallery app is replaced with Google Photos.
