How to use the Bootloader

The Bootloader screen can be used in situations when your device cannot boot normally, or when you need to use specific system tools to help you solve issues. You might need to use it in situations like this:

  • Factory resetting a device that cannot otherwise be reset
  • Rebooting a device that cannot otherwise be rebooted
  • Manually flashing the device's ROM
  • Wiping the cache partition
  • Viewing key device information

Follow these steps to enter the Bootloader screen:

  1. Ensure the device is powered OFF.
  2. Hold the VOLUME DOWN button, while pressing and releasing the POWER button.
  3. Continue to hold VOLUME DOWN until the bootloader screen is displayed (white screen with the three Androids at the bottom).

While in the Bootloader screen, keep the following items in mind:

  • Use the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons to move the cursor.
  • Select items using the POWER button.

This is what you can do in the Bootloader screen:

  • FASTBOOT – This screen provides the options to exit the bootloader. It is also useful for manually flashing a device using USB.
  • HBOOT – Returns to the main bootloader screen.
  • REBOOT – Reboots the device normally.
  • REBOOT FASTBOOT – Reboots the device directly into the FASTBOOT screen. Note that the bootloader screen will not appear if Fast boot is enabled. To disable, go to Settings > Battery Manager and uncheck Fast boot.
  • POWER DOWN – Fully powers the device off.
  • RECOVERY – Used to perform a Wipe Cache Partition action.
  • FACTORY RESET – Provides a method to factory reset the device if the operating system is corrupt or inaccessible (user locked out, etc).
  • SHOW BARCODE – Allows users to see the key device information such as IMEI and Serial number if the primary OS is inaccessible.

We advise strongly against using these other options:

  • RAMDUMP
  • SIMLOCK
  • CHECK SMARTSD
  • IMAGE CRC

These options are best left to the staff of your Authorized Service Provider (ASP).
