I've forgotten my lock screen/encryption password
You may be experiencing any of these issues:
  • You have lost your lock screen password.
  • You are unable to move past the lock screen due to a password not being accepted.
  • You don't know the password your phone is asking for.

If you have forgotten, lost, or otherwise do not know the lock screen or the encryption password for your phone, the phone must be factory data reset. See How to factory reset a device.

NOTE: For Android phones on Android 5.0 or higher, Factory Reset Protection may be enabled. Ensure you have the login information of a Google account that is logged into the phone before taking the following steps, or you will be unable to use the phone.

  1. Boot the phone into either Recovery Mode or the Bootloader, depending on the phone.
  2. Navigate to and select Factory Data Reset.
You may need to navigate and select YES after this step.
  3. Select Reboot or Reboot System Now.
