My touch screen isn't working properly

You may be experiencing any of these issues:

  • Touch screen does not respond to input.
  • Touch input is registered very slowly.
  • Touch input is not accurate.
  • You touch somewhere on the screen, but the phone detects the touch somewhere else.

Cleaning the screen can improve touch performance. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the phone is free from any dust, dirt, oil, or other debris and moisture.
  2. Wipe the screen of the phone with a clean cloth; microfiber cloths or those used for cleaning glasses are particularly good for this.
Avoid using any liquid-based cleaning products with the phone.

Some issues can be resolved by power cycling your phone. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold POWER until the Power Options appear.
  2. Select Power Off and wait for the phone to fully turn off.
  3. Wait for a few moments, and then power the phone on by pressing and holding the Power button.

Use the built in diagnostic tool to check for hardware errors.

  1. Open the Phone application, as if making a phone call.
  2. Dial *#*#3424#*#* to launch the HTC Self-Diagnostic utility, and press Accept.
  3. Check the Line Drawing Test option and the select RUN on the bottom of the screen.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen. You will be asked to draw lines on the screen.
If the lines drawn follow the user’s finger properly, a hardware issue is not present.
If the lines do not appear, or appears in the wrong place, a hardware issue may be present.

A factory data reset can also resolve some software issues. See How to factory reset a device.
