How to turn off Talkback

Talkback is an accessibility feature that can help visually-impaired individuals use their HTC device. It can be turned on or off in the Accessibility settings, or can be enabled in the Ready2Go setup wizard by holding two fingers on the screen for 5 seconds.

If Talkback was enabled via the Settings menu, it can be turned off by navigating to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack and quickly tap the On/Off switch at the top-right of the screen twice. When Talkback is enabled you must touch a menu option and then tap twice anywhere on the screen to select it; additionally, you must use two fingers simultaneously to scroll through on-screen menus.

Follow these steps to suspend TalkBack from any screen:

  1. Draw an L shape on the screen to bring up a pop-up menu.
    NOTE:
This setting does not work if the Talkback settings screen is already displayed.
  2. Tap Pause feedback at the upper-left of the screen.
  3. Double-tap OK on the Suspend TalkBack screen.
After suspending TalkBack, it is best to navigate to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack and turn TalkBack off; otherwise, TalkBack will be re-enabled after the device is rebooted

Talkback can be enabled in the Ready2Go setup wizard by pressing the screen with 2 fingers for 5 seconds. Follow these steps to turn it off:

  1. Perform the same steps to suspend TalkBack, described previously.
  2. Complete the Ready2Go setup wizard or navigate to Remind Later > Exit.
  3. Once the setup wizard is complete, navigate to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack and then tap the On/Off switch at the top-right of the screen.
  4. Tap OK on the Stop Talkback screen.
