What is USB Type-C & Quick Charge 3.0?

Your phone may use a USB Type-C port instead of the microUSB port common on previous phones. These are some key differences between USB Type-C and microUSB:

  • MicroUSB cables will not connect to a device with a USB Type-C port.
  • USB Type-C cables are reversible, there is no way to plug the cable into the port upside-down.
  • USB Type-C allows for more data throughput and can support technologies such as Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0.

These tips will help you get the best performance with your phone:

  • Use the USB cable that was provided with your phone for optimal performance. While third-party cables should work (look for the USB-IF certified logo), there may be variances in power output and this may cause performance issues.
  • A micro USB to USB Type-C adapter may work with your phone, though you may see a loss in charging speed and may even cause damage to your device, cable, or charging source.
  • With Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, your phone's battery can receive a 50% charge in 30 minutes or less (depending on charging equipment and power source); once past 50%, charging speed slows down to prevent over-stressing the battery.
