How to add a POP3 mail account to your phone

In order to set up a new email account on your Android phone, use the following settings:

Incoming mail server

  • pop3.live.com
  • port 995
  • Requires SSL

Outgoing mail server

  • smtp.live.com
  • port 25
  • Requires SSL

NOTE: Android phones require TLS security on the outgoing server only.

In most Windows Mobile phones, entering a Live.com or Hotmail.com address will prompt you to use a web interface or Windows Live Messenger. To bypass this, change your email address when setting up your account through Messaging. For example, use username@hotmail.coms or username@live.coms. Adding a letter at the end of the email address will bypass the automatic setup and allow you to manually enter the account settings as a POP3 account.
