BEAUTIFUL phone, the first time I held the Sensation XL it felt stunningly sleek, has a lovely weight and smooth aluminium finish on the battery cover. Upon opening the box I believed I had purchased a truly world class phone. And for the first 3 weeks the Sensation XL lived up to my high expectations and praise. I adjusted to the sheer size of the phone within a few days of use, the apps are great and the Beats Audio and UrBeats are awesome. At this point the only 'con' for the XL was the poor battery life, which I knew to expect due to the sheer size of the screen (needs to be charged everyday). However, after these first 3 weeks with the XL the problems began to surface.
At first it began with a horribly high pitched screaming that occurred whenever I charged the XL. It's hard to describe but imagine the ringing noise in your ears after a gig/concert/really loud music crossed with the high pitch wailing of a Bat and there, you pretty much have the noise. This wasn't a problem during the day where the sound was drowned out, but at night when it is charging in the bedroom, trying to get to sleep, you shall definitely detect the sound and if your a light sleeper YOU WILL need earplugs.
The next problem was that the screen would often freeze and even when firmly pressed sometimes wouldn't respond at all. This can be really irritating especially when typing in the middle of a text, the screen freezes and becomes really slow so it takes 5 minutes to complete the rest of the text (RAGE).
However, I looked past this occasional problem for my love for the rest of the XL shone through.
Which leads us onto the final and most irritating problem and just makes you want to throw the XL at the wall and watch it shatter into pieces. This sounds like I am simply over exaggerating but please read on. THE PHONE WILL NOT STOP TURNING ITSELF OFF!!! For the last month my 'beautiful' XL has been abnormally shutting down (WITHOUT WARNING, the screen just goes black and the phone dies) at least 4-5 times per day. And it isn't just shutting down whilst using the phone for an app or seriously multi-tasking. It can happen WHENEVER! The middle of a song; watching a video; texting; using an app; sometimes whilst unlocking the screen. It has even shut down on me when the phone was on 'sleep' (how is that even possible???). Moreover, every time my XL dies the battery is significantly depleted after restarting (e.g. phone on with battery level 89% - XL dies - turn back on and battery level 7%). Plus the bottom of the Phone becomes unusually hot when using market apps. I tried to endure the problems to see if they would stop. But after a month and a half of paying for a continuously dying Sensation XL, which even the steeliest of souls couldn't endure, the sheer incapability of the phone when it is always shutting down really drains you (it once died 11 times consecutively GGGGRRRR). I decided to browse various forums discussing problems with the XL, and came to the conclusion that I needed to Factory reset my XL. So after backing up all my data which was yet more hassle, I ATTEMPTED to factory reset. I say 'attempted' because literally as I was pressing the Factory Reset button; you guessed it...
MY HTC SENSATION XL HAD THE AUDACITY TO DIE.
I was SO CLOSE to throwing the XL across the room, at my dog, which so happened to be barking irritably out the window at an old lady across the street. That I instead punched the wall in front of me, (it really hurt!) I had to quench my anger or risk smashing the phone and void getting a replacement. Eventually I factory reset.
And a replacement is exactly what I ended up demanding as the factory reset didn't fix the problem.
So there, the Sensation XL is a stunning, beautiful, exquisitely built phone. But in my personal experience, (and this review is solely based on my experiences with the XL) Beauty is nothing without BASIC functionality and the added standard expectation that the phone will actually stay alive for a day. A lovely phone let down by very poor functionality.
I just hope the replacement I receive will not have the same problems, otherwise I may have to look elsewhere for a supposedly 'Super Phone'. (Will keep you posted on the new one) :D

The HTC Sensation XL is a phenomenal super phone with amazing features, specs, camera's and apps. This is by far one of the most beautifully designed phones I have ever seen and the huge screen size really pays off when it comes to gaming, watching videos and taking pictures as the screen size is portable yet big enough to enjoy all these amazing things and to top it off, the colours are vibrant and crisp clear. I RECOMMEND THIS PHONE!

i originally wanted the one x but my dad got me this phone and after using it i dont feel there is any need for a newer phone. overall it has been 100% reliable and has handled all of my needs very well.
the camera is brilliant sometimes it may go a little off focus if you have a shaky hand but what phone doesnt. when taking pictures in the dark it has a really powerful flash which ive always had problems with before in the light of the picture and being the right brightness. the only fault is there is no button on the side of the phone if you want to take a picture of you and a friends so its very hard to try and hit the touchscreen while holding it faced towards you. other than that it has great effects and shoot modes and can record video 2x slow mo.
the processor isnt meant to be as great as most but ive used this phone for facebook, youtube and have been uploading pictures from the phone and it is actually suprisingly fast considering.
the sound is the best by far ive heard on any phone. its just amazing.
the phone is easy to use but some of the stuff in the settings can be a bit complicated but if you go on this site onto help and select the phone it gives you everything you need to know.
a really lovely feature is how it shows you the weather on the home screen automatically, it has been accurate so far and only takes 5 seconds to show you only thing it doesnt cover which i need to know is wind speeds but im sure most people dont jump out of planes on a regular basis.
overall has loads of useful apps eg, calculator torch and just loads of other things.
the phone came with htc sense i love it fast works just brilliant.
and lastly the battery life is not the best ive had on a phone but from lets say 6am til 10 pm on a full charge regularly sending texts and checking facebook at times maybe uploading a few pictures taking at least 50 pictures and a few videos watching a video on youtube listening to some music on the speaker with a few phone call the battery would be at 10% by 10 pm but thats a good full day and it lasts me long enough i dont see why anyone would need a phone with more battery life, if your going away for the night just take the charger no problem .
im 16 i do drop my phones sometimes and the design isnt the strongest but its pretty good i would also get a rubber gel case for the phone which you can get new on ebay for a few pounds they stop those chips and cracked screens so its not really an issue.
overall a great phone and would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by EHodges Unbeatable? Id say so..
Other than the battery life being slightly shorter than i would like the HTC Sensation XL is better than any other smartphone i have owned, including apple's and LG's.

The phone itself is pretty good, android 4.0 isn't so good, I went from Apple to Android. I will be going back to Apple or Windows when i next upgrade, Android are far behind Apple unfortunately. It has the features but no Android phone is as seamless and smooth as Apple or Windows. Good phone, not so good software.

i love using this phone, it has been reliable in every aspect, but the only bad point i have is that battery life is very bad. when you turn off your wi-fi or 3g it actually does keep charge almost 1 day maybe 2 if your not a person which plays on it alot. but when you do turn on your wi-fi or 3g thats when the charge starts to go very quickly. apart from the battery life, the phone has been a great pleasure to use and its a very reliable phone as well and also it has furfield my every need.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Sony Great phone, still rivals the newer models.
For a single core 1.5Ghz processor phone, I have had no problems with it. It runs smoothly, the screen is bright and the colours are vibrant, the bigger screen makes it easier to use and see. The installed Beats sound is impressive to say the least. The only issue is the battery life but if you can fork out the money for a longer life battery, then the phone becomes faultless.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Jonnyk09 Wouldn't ever have this phone again
Its a good phone, good features, really bright and sharp screen. Shows photos and videos really nicely, the internet is good and very easy to use. The phone overall works really well, a bit of a bigger battery size would be nicer and in my experience the touch screen itself was the worst touch screen i have ever felt, it constantly does what it wants and stops letting me touch it so i have to constantly lock it and reopen it again. I would love to say that i would have this phone, or another HTC again but the fact is that with the screen i just couldn't justify not getting one of the main competitors completely on the fact that i despise the touch screen.
Also, the screen seems to be very lightweight, i have dropped it a few times and every time i have been relieved to find it in once piece but it only took one fall from about 6 inches on to a hard floor to shatter.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Nando Best phone I've had so far.
I've had other phones before, but I have to say that HTC is a superior brand. Together with HTC Sense, my phone is just beautiful. Although I have found lately that sometimes when unlock the phone, it seem to touch somewhere and mess up. Maybe the result of being dropped frequently.. Not even going to compare it to iPhones, the screen size on this is just supreme. The aluminium back does get cold at night and slippery without a case. I won't be upgrading any time soon as it is not worth the money. I've had this phone since it came out, still going strong till this day.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by motherduckling Worst phone i've ever had the misfortune to own
Thought this phone was suppose to be one of the best on the market when I upgraded. Not so, if you don't want to talk to friends and family, it constantly switches it's self off and on. Forever having to apologize to people, not nice.

sensation xl is a brilliant phone. it is beautiful, large, fast and has all a person wants, with an ICS update getting onto it. the only problem is its delicacy. it should be handled or carried with great care.
