The software upgrade posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Touch:

Why update the ROM on your device?

	Upgrades the operating system from Windows Mobile® 6.0 Professional  to Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional
	Adds support for EV-DO Rev A for faster download and upload speeds when utilizing data services where EV-DO Rev A coverage is available.

 

Please read the following important notes before starting the upgrade: How can I check to see if the upgrade available is a newer version of software than what is currently in my device? Go to “start”  Select “settings” Go to “System” tab Select “Device Information” which should display a screen like the one shown. If the ROM version and Radio versions are different than what is shown or the ROM date is older, you should consider upgrading.

 Before you upgrade make sure you check and do the following first: 

	If you are having challenges connecting with ActiveSync, please try the following on your device: Go to “start”  Select “settings” Go to “Connections” tab Select “USC to PC” and uncheck “Enable advanced network functionality”
	The standby and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer. Click here to view instructions on how to do this. If using a laptop, make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source.
	All running applications on the computer have been closed.
	Ensure that your device has a battery level of at least 50%.  To check you battery level Go to “start” Select “settings” Go to “System Tab” Select “Power” Go to “Battery Tab” Note: A charged battery is essential to completing your software upgrade.   If you start the upgrade without a charged battery there is “risk” that it will not recover and will need to be sent for repairs.
	The update can take up to 25 minutes so set aside time when you will not be interrupted.
	All data will be deleted from the device during the upgrade (music, pictures, 3rd party applications, etc); be sure to back up all of your data using ActiveSync (Windows Mobile Device Center, if you are running Windows Vista) prior to upgrading.  (See instructions below)
	Do not interrupt the upgrade process or press any buttons until the process has been completed (the device will reset itself when the update is done).

 Procedure to upgrade your device software

Step 1: Back up Personal Data from your device

If there is information on your device that you would like to retain, you will need to create a backup copy on your desktop PC prior to installing the new software on your device.   If you do not backup your information you will permanently delete all of your personal info including but not limited to: settings, files, contacts, calendar, emails, ringtones, pictures/videos, and 3rd party applications.

Step 2: Upgrade Software on your Device

Before you run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), make sure you check and do the following first:

• USB cable that came with your smartphone is connected to computer.
• Stand-by and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer (see instructions above).
• All applications on the computer have been closed.
• USB cable that is plugged into your cable is also plugged into your smartphone and you have established an ActiveSync connection with the computer.
• Do not interact with your smartphone unless instructed to do so.

You are now ready to launch the ROM Update Utility (RUU) to upgrade your mobile device

Step 3: Restore Personal Data on your device

After you have completed the software upgrade you will need to run this final step to restore your personal data on your device. 

WARNING: During the upgrade process, do not attempt to make/receive calls, press any buttons on your device or disconnect the device from the USB cable as this will stop the update and your device will be rendered inoperable!!!

WARNING: Users should not attempt to load an older version of Touch ROM software after loading version 3.01.573.4.  Please delete any earlier versions of the Touch ROM software you may have downloaded previously to your PC.

How to copy the hotfix to the device

• Download the hotfix below and save it to the desktop of your PC
• Verify you have installed and configured the Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) software
• Connect the Touch to your PC using the supplied USB cable
• In Activesync, tap on Explore to bring up the File Explorer window.  For WMDC, tap on File Management then Browse the contents of your device.
• If using WMDC, double click on the device memory folder that appears in the File Explorer screen.  This is usually depicted by a backslash icon.  Next, double click on My Documents.
• Drag and drop the hotfix file from your Desktop to the File Explorer window

How to install the hotfix on the device

• On the device, tap Start > Programs > File Explorer
• Locate the hotfix file and single tap on it to install
• Follow the onscreen prompts to install the hotfix
• Reboot the device per on-screen instructions to finalize installation

NOTE:  This hotfix will need to be reinstalled if the device is hard reset.
