What does a Hard Reset do and how is it performed? more

A Hard Reset (a.k.a. factory data reset) removes all information from your device and returns it to a state just like it has never been used before. The Hard Reset will erase all your data and require you to go through set up screens. This process will take around 5 minutes. From the Home screen, press the Menu key > Touch Settings > Touch and slide screen upward and touch SD card & phone storage > touch Factory data reset > touch Reset phone.

When should I perform a Hard Reset? more
A hard reset basically returns your device RAM to factory conditions, the device is restored to its default settings – the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain. This is a drastic step, and should only be taken in the event that there is some kind of hardware failure, gross system error, or if you want to remove all of your data from the device. A Hard Reset should only be done if nothing else worked to recover your device.
