Locking and Unlocking Your Phone more
Protect your phone against false touches or prying eyes with two kinds of lock:
  • A Lock screen, which helps to prevent accidental button or touch screen presses while the phone is in your pocket or bag. For information, see Using the Lock Screen in this section
  • A password lock, which helps to prevent unauthorized use of your phone. For information, see Protecting Your Phone with a Password in this section
Using the Lock Screen more
The Lock screen helps to prevent accidental button or touch screen presses. Even if you accidentally press the power button and wake up the phone when it is in your pocket, the Lock screen ensures that you will not unintentionally make calls or change settings.

The phone is locked whenever it goes into Sleep mode. You can put the phone into Sleep mode by pressing the END/POWER button. The phone also goes into Sleep mode automatically if you do not touch the screen or press any buttons for a certain amount of time.

When you wake the phone up from Sleep mode, the Lock screen is displayed. To unlock the phone, slide the Lock button fully to the left or right.

Changing Sleep mode settings
You can change the idle time before the phone automatically goes into Sleep mode.
  1. On the Home screen, Select Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > System > Power > Backlight.
  2. To change the time before the phone goes into Sleep mode, select a time from the Turn off device if not used for lists. (To turn off automatic Sleep mode altogether, clear the Turn off device if not used for check boxes.)
  3. Tap Done
Protecting Your Phone with a Password more
  1. On the Home screen's Settings tab, tap Security > Phone lock.
  2. Select the Prompt if phone unused for check box, and then specify the idle time before the phone requires a password. If you choose 0 Minutes, you will need to input the password every time you wake the phone up from Sleep mode.
  3. From the Password type list, select the type of password you would like to use:
    • Simple PIN. This consists of four digits. Do not begin the password with the local emergency phone number, as you may call the number accidentally when trying to unlock the phone.
