On Windows® Marketplace for Mobile, it’s easy to download new apps (programs) that fit your needs and make your phone truly personal. A wide range of free and premium apps is available, from games to powerful business programs. You can shop securely and download apps straight to your phone.
To shop in Marketplace, you must have an Internet connection on your phone.
Visiting Marketplace for the first time
- Tap Start > Marketplace. If prompted to add Marketplace to your phone, tap Yes.
- Tap the links to view the terms of use and privacy policy, and then tap Accept.
- Tap Menu > Sign in.
- Enter your Hotmail or Windows Live address and password.
- Tap Sign in.
- Tap Start >Marketplace.
- Browse through the categories and tap on an app that interests you.
- Read the description of the app.
- Tap Install. If prompted, follow the onscreen instructions to confirm installation and set up a payment method.
The app may open automatically after it has installed. If not, tap Start and scroll down the Start screen to look for the app.
Removing an app from your phone
- On the Marketplace Home screen, tap My applications >Remove an app.
- Tap the app you want to remove.
- Tap Uninstall.
If you have removed an app, it's easy to reinstall it whenever you want.
- On the Marketplace Home screen, tap My applications > Ready to install.
- Tap the app you want to reinstall.
- Tap Install.

Your phone can pinpoint your exact location with its built-in GPS receiver. When you use GPS with Google Maps, you can view your current location on a map of your surrounding area and get directions to places of interest. To use GPS, you must have a clear view of the sky. To use Google Maps, your phone must be connected to the Internet.
Turning on GPS in Google Maps
- Tap Start > Google Maps.
- If this is your first time to use Google Maps, tap the link to view the Mobile Terms of Service, and then tap Accept. On the subsequent screen, tap OK.
- On the main Google Maps screen, tap Menu > Use GPS.
Getting directions from your current location to a place of interest
- On the main Google Maps screen, tap Menu > Get Directions.
- Tap one of the tabs to select whether to drive, take public transport, or walk to your destination. If you tap the Public transport (or Transit) tab, you can set the departure or arrival time for your journey, or find out the latest possible journey that day.

Tap End point, and do one of the following:
- Enter the address or the name of the place you want to go to, for example London Eye.
- Tap Select a point on the map, and then press and hold your destination on the map.
- Tap Show directions or Show journeys (Show trips) to perform a search and get a list of directions to your destination. If there are multiple search results, choose the one you want.
- To see the route to your destination on the map, tap See map. Tap the left and right arrow buttons to step through the directions.
- Travel to your destination, using your location and destination markers as guides. As you move, the blue dot moves on the map, constantly showing your current position.
When you reach your destination, you can clear the directions from the map by tapping Menu > Clear Map.

Digital Compass converts your phone into a handy compass so you can determine the direction you're facing, your precise GPS location, and your distance to a destination.
Determining your direction
- On the Home screen, tap Start > Tools > Digital Compass.
- Hold your phone parallel to the ground with the top of the phone facing away from you.
- Use the pointer (red line) to determine your direction. The compass value at the upper end of the pointer shows the direction you are facing, while the current direction displayed at the top of the screen tells you the precise compass value.
Navigating to a destination
View continually updated distance and direction information to a destination that you have picked on a map. Digital Compass uses your phone's GPS receiver to work out where you are in relation to your destination.
GPS requires a clear view of the sky, while Google Maps requires an active Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
- On the Home screen, tap Start > Tools > Digital Compass.
- Tap Destination at the bottom of the screen to open Google Maps.
- Tap and hold a destination on the map. Digital Compass activates your phone's GPS. When your GPS location is found, the distance to your destination is shown under the compass. The green dot on the compass bezel indicates the direction of your destination.
- Use the direction of the green dot as a reference to help you find your destination. The displayed distance decreases as you get closer to your destination.
- Getting Weather Updates more

Your phone can stay in tune with your local weather, wherever you are. It can also automatically get updates for a number of locations. You can view the weather information on:
- The Weather tab of the Home screen. This shows a five-day weather forecast for your current location and other locations.
- The Home tab of the Home screen. The weather clock summarizes the current weather where you are, and the weather wallpaper provides a lifelike animation of the current conditions. For more information, see Using the Home screen.
- The Day view of the Calendar. For information, see Using the Calendar.
Viewing updates on the Weather tab
On the Home screen, slide to the Weather tab, and then do any of the following:
- To update the weather manually, tap Update Now.
- To view the weather in another location, swipe up or down on the screen.
The Weather tab can display weather forecasts for up to 15 locations, including your current location. (These locations are the same as the ones displayed on the World Clock.)
- On the Weather tab, tap Menu > Add Location.
- On the Add Location screen, enter the first few letters of a country or city name. The screen then displays a matching list of locations. Scroll through the list and then tap the name of the city you want to add.
Managing weather updates
- On the Home screen's Weather tab, tap Menu > Settings.
- Choose from the following options:
- Download weather automatically. When this option is selected, weather information is automatically downloaded at the set download interval. Clear this option if you prefer to manually download weather information.To change the download interval, tap the box that shows the preset time, and then choose another time interval.
- Download weather when roaming. Select this option only if you want to allow automatic download of weather data when roaming (when you are out of range of your mobile operator's network). This may incur additional data charges.
- Tap Done.

Browsing photos and videos in portrait view
- On the Home screen, slide to the Photos & Videos tab.
- Swipe your finger up or down the screen to flip through photos and videos.
- Tap the displayed photo or video to view it in full screen or start video playback.
Browsing photos and videos in landscape view
Another great way to sift through your collection is to turn the Photos & Videos tab to landscape view and browse your photos and videos in river-flow motion.
- While on the Photos & Videos tab, turn you phone sideways to your left.
- Navigate to the photo or video that you want to view:
- To navigate through photos and videos one at a time, slide your finger left or right on the screen.
- Tap the photo or video at the side to bring it at the center of the screen.
- To quickly skim through photos and videos, flick left or right across the screen.

On the Home tab, you will see a lifelike animation of your current weather. You can change the wallpaper of this weather animation or choose another animated wallpaper for the Home tab. You can also use a favorite photo as Home tab wallpaper.
Changing the background of the weather animation
- On the Home tab, tap Menu > Home Wallpaper > Weather Wallpaper.
- Tap a wallpaper, or tap Albums > All to use another image stored on your phone or storage card.
Switching to another animated wallpaper
You can use another animated wallpaper (without weather animation) for the Home tab.
- On the Home tab, tap Menu > Home Wallpaper > Animated Wallpaper.
- Tap an animated wallpaper.
Using a favorite photo as wallpaper
You can transfer a photo from your computer to your phone and use it as Home tab wallpaper. The photo must be in .jpg, .png, .bmp, or .gif format. For best results, the photo should be the same size as your phone's screen. (To find out your phone's screen size, slide to the Home screen's Settings tab, and then tap About phone > Hardware Information. The screen size is displayed under Display resolution.)
- Make sure that you have installed a microSD card in your phone.
- Copy the photo from your computer to the storage card.
- On the Home tab, tap Menu > Home Wallpaper > Animated Wallpaper.
- Tap Albums > .
- Navigate to the photo, and then tap it.

The Home screen provides quick and easy access to all the key features of your phone. The first tab you see on the Home screen is the Home tab.
- The clock automatically displays the local time and weather wherever you are.
To see the time in different cities, tap the clock.
To set an alarm, tap the clock and then tap the Alarm Clock tab.
To go to the Weather tab and update the weather information manually or configure automatic updating, tap the weather image on the clock. See Getting Weather Updates.
- The weather wallpaper shows a lifelike animation of your local weather. To change the background of the weather animation, or to change to another wallpaper, see Changing the Home Tab Wallpaper.
- If you have an upcoming appointment, it is displayed in the calendar section. Tap the appointment to go to the Calendar tab and view the appointment details. For information on adding appointments and viewing your schedule, see Using the Calendar.
- You can add quick links to important contacts, favorite websites, and frequently used applications right on the Home tab. See Adding a Quick Link to the Home Tab.
- Tabs at the bottom of the screen let you easily access key features of your phone, such as People, Messages, Mail, and Internet. Press and hold the currently selected tab and then slide your finger right or left to tab you want to use. You can also tap a tab to go to it directly.
Customizing Home Screen Tabs
Get even faster access to features that you use most often. Rearrange or hide Home screen tabs to suit your needs. (You'll always need the Home tab and the Settings tab, so we've ensured that these are always displayed.)
- On the Home tab, tap Menu > Personalize Home Screen Tabs.
- To move a tab, press and hold the icon before the tab name, and then drag it up or down the tabs list. Release it when it's in the position you want.
- To hide a tab, clear the check box at the right of the tab name.
- Tap Done.
- Using the Calendar more

Adding a new appointment or other event just needs a few taps. Choose from several different Calendar views to keep track of your schedule.
If you sync your calendar with your work Outlook account via Exchange Server, you can also send an invitation along with the appointment. For more information, see Setting Up Your Work Outlook Account.
- On the Home screen, slide to the Calendar tab.
- Tap Menu > New Appointment.
- Fill in the title for the event, and then enter a location.
- Tap the Start field to set the start date for the appointment.
- To set the event duration, time and recurrence, do any of the following:
- Tap the time fields to set when the event starts and finishes.
- If the event lasts more than one day, tap the End field and select the finish date.
- If the event is an all-day event or extends over several whole days, select the All Day check box.
- If the event or appointment occurs regularly, for example a birthday or a weekly meeting, tap under Repeat area and select an interval.
- To invite people to the event or appointment, tap the Invite button next to Required Attendee or Optional attendee. (Attendees will only be designated as optional if your company uses Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or later. Otherwise, all attendees will be set as required.) When people accept your invitation, the event or appointment is automatically added to their schedules. When their response is sent back to you, your calendar is updated as well.
- Fill in other appointment details as desired, and then tap Done.
Changing the calendar view
On the Calendar tab, tap Menu, and then select from these calendar views:
- Agenda. Shows your upcoming appointments for today and the next six days.
- Day. Displays a single day's appointments and the weather information for that day, if available.
- Week. Shows your appointments for a whole week. Days display in columns and appointment times are indicated by vertical bars that run along the timeline on the left side of the screen. To change the first day of the week (for example from Monday to Sunday), tap Menu > Settings.
- Month. Displays all your appointments for a month. Dates with appointments are marked with a triangle at the upper right corner of the date box.
- Year. Shows the annual calendar with the current date highlighted. Your appointments do not show on this view.
Viewing or editing an appointment
