    How do I stop applications from running in the background?

    Your device has three methods of managing memory and stopping applications:

    1. Running Services menu – From any screen, press and hold the Home key to display the applications currently running applications. Swipe any of these application references left or right to quickly end the task.
    2. Task Manager – Accessible in the All apps menu, or by opening the Notifications bar, tapping Quick Settings tab, and then tapping Total Memory.
    3. Running Services
        a. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
        b. Tap Settings.
        c. Tap Apps.
        d. Tap Running.
        e. Tap the service you wish to close, and tap Stop.
        Note: There are important system processes available in this view, so be very careful to only stop processes that you recognize.

    1. Connect the device to your computer using the USB cable.
    2. Tap Disk drive and then tap OK.
    3. If the Choose a connection type pop-up does not display, tap the top of the screen and drag down to display the notifications window.
      • Tap Charge only / Select to change USB connection type.
        Note: The main title of this item may say Disk drive, Charge only, HTC Sync, USB tethering, or Internet pass-through, depending on the current USB connection settings
    4. Tap Done.
    5. On the computer when the HTC STORAGE/Removable Disk window appears, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
      • The HTC STORAGE window references the Phone storage.
      • The Removable Disk window references the SD card if one is inserted. This window will not display if no SD card is present.
    6. Copy and paste or drag and drop the file to/from the HTC STORAGE/Removable Disk folder to another folder on your computer.
    7. When you are done moving files, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
    8. Click Safely remove Mass Storage Device.

    How do I move the storage location for an application?

    By default, all applications on the handset are installed to the Internal Storage partition (used specifically for apps and app data). An application can be moved to the Phone Storage card if it was designed by the developer to have that function. To move applications to Phone Storage:

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Apps.
    4. Tap on the application that you want to move and then tap Move to phone storage.

    Note 1: If you have installed an SD card in your device (one does not come shipped with it), there is no option to move applications to it.

    Note 2: You will not be able to use the applications on Phone storage if the handset is connected to a computer and in Disk drive mode.

    What features are included in Calendar?

    Calendar allows you to view multiple calendars from different sources (Exchange, Facebook, Google and personal). You can view your calendar by agenda, day, week, or month. You can add events to each different calendar. You can also invite people to meetings.

    • To add a new calendar item, go to All apps > Calendar. Tap add in the top-right corner.
    • To select which calendar you want to add the event to, in the New Event window, tap the button at the top and pick the calendar you wish to add the event to from the pop-up.
    • To add someone to the meeting, tap the To field under the calendar name and type the desired meeting recipients. Alternatively, tap the People icon to the right of the To field and select attendees from your address book by checking the box(es) next to the contact name(s). Tap Done when finished selecting recipients.
    • To set a location for your event you can enter an address or you can use maps to select a location by tapping the button next to the Event Location field.
    • Once all desired fields are filled out, select Save

    Share media using Connected Media

    3. Tap Music, Photos or Videos.
    4. Locate and tap the media file you wish to share.
    5. Choose the device on your network where you want to play the media.
    6. Once connected to the other device, your device opens up the Controller screen.

    Share media from Gallery or Music

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap the Gallery or Music application.
    3. Locate the media that you want to share, and then tap it.
    4. While viewing the photo or playing the song/video, press the Menu key.
    5. Tap Output.
    6. Choose the device on your network where you want to play the media.
    7. Once connected to the other device, your device opens up the Controller screen.

    The home screen changed after the software update. What is different?

    The primary change to the home screen after the last update is the new launch bar at the bottom of the screen. Where previously there were three static buttons for All apps, Phone and Personalize, the new bar has four application shortcuts that are visible on all home screen panels.

    By default, these shortcuts are Phone, Messages, Mail and Camera, though they can be customized to be whichever applications you like. Simply drag and drop the application shortcuts on or off the launch bar as you would for other home screen icons. Icons on the launch bar may also be grouped into folders.

    In order to use the FM Radio, you must first plug in headphones into the 3.5mm headphone jack. The headphones are used as an antenna, allowing the application to scan the FM airwaves and record any available channels. You can also set your favorite channels to quickly access them later. To exit the FM Radio application, tap the power icon on the upper-right of your screen.

    NOTE: If you unplug your headphones, the FM Radio will automatically turn off.

    How can I install an application I downloaded from my pc to my device?

    To enable the manual installation of an application, you must first enable applications from unknown sources (see the How do I install applications that are not in the Android Market? FAQ). Next, you must make sure that the installer is an .apk file, as this is the only file type that can be installed on the Android OS.

    After you have downloaded the installation file to your computer, use the micro USB cable to connect the device to your computer. When prompted, choose Disk drive as the connection type on your device. On your computer, go to the newly mounted Removable Disk and then copy the file to the microSD card. Once the transfer is finished, disconnect your device from your computer.

    In order for you to be able to access the file and install it on your device, you will need a file manager application installed. From the Home screen, tap the All apps button, tap Market and search for the keyword “file manager.” Locate and download a file manager application.

     

    Using your file manager, open the folder where you copied the file. Tap the installation file then tap Install. Once the application is installed, it will be available in your All apps menu.

    Can the camera auto-detect the lighting conditions?

    By default, your device is set to auto detect the lighting conditions in which you are taking pictures. If you would like to have more control over the way your pictures are taken you can do so in the Settings menu.

    1. From within the Camera application, tap Settings.
    2. Tap White balance.
      • Your choices are Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, and Cloudy.
      • Adjusting the white balance will let you fine tune your pictures for the lighting environment in which you are taking pictures in.

    Your device also has the ability to change the ISO speed to adjust to different lighting conditions. If you are unsure of what this setting can do with your pictures, it is recommended to leave the setting at Auto to automate the ISO settings.

    How do I modify my camera settings so I can shoot better photos?
    • Self-timer allows you to set a timer for 2 or 10 seconds to help you capture that perfect group shot.
    • Image adjustments gives you the ability to change the following qualities of your pictures: Exposure, Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness.
    • White Balance gives you the ability to fine tune your pictures based on the lighting conditions, Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, and Cloudy.
    • ISO changes the speed of the shutter, generally the darker your environment you are taking pictures in, the higher the ISO setting should be.
    • Resolution changes the resolution of your image – a larger resolution will take a higher quality picture, but also increase the file size.
    • Review duration allows you to choose how long a captured picture is displayed on the screen before the device returns to the viewfinder.
    • Storage allows you to choose your default storage location for captured pictures: Phone storage or Storage card. Note: An SD card must be installed to enable the Storage card choice.
    • Widescreen allows you to choose to take your pictures in widescreen (16:9) or standard (4:3) dimensions.
    • Geo-tag photos allows you to choose whether to add geo-location metadata to your photos. Enabling this will allow you to see and share where your pictures were captured.
    • Auto enhance/Auto focus/Face detection will also help produce higher quality images.
    • Shutter sound allows you to choose whether you want the camera to make a “click” sound when a picture is captured.
    • Grid adds measurement points to the screen to help make sure your pictures are lined up correctly.
    • Auto Upload allows you to automatically upload your pictures to Facebook or Flickr.
    • Reset to default returns your device camera settings to factory default – useful if you are unhappy with settings you have changed.

    3. The dialer entry will become blank, and then you should receive a notification in the notification bar confirming the connection.
    4. Return to the Market and the applications should begin downloading as normal.
