    What software do I need to synchronize my device with my PC?

    HTC Sync allows synchronization between a Device and PC.  You can find the latest version of HTC Sync, instructions, and drivers from the Support section of our website.

    Once you download HTC Sync, connect your device to your PC and select HTC Sync from the Choose a connection type pop-up.

    NOTE: USB debugging mode must be enabled for your device to be able to synchronize with your PC using HTC Sync. This should happen automatically, and a USB debugging connected notification will appear in your Notifications menu when successfully enabled. If this does not appear, you can manually enable this setting by:

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Develop option.
    4. Tap to check USB debugging.

    How do I change a notification sound?

    There are two ways to change the notification sound on your device: The Personalize utility and the Settings menu.

    Personalize

    1. From the Home screen, tap All Apps.
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap the Sound tab.
    4. Tap Notification sound.
    5. Tap the notification sound you want to change: Default, Message, Calendar or Email
    6. Tap the desired notification sound.
    7. Tap Apply.

    Settings
    NOTE: This process will only change the default Notification sound.

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Sound.
    4. Tap Notification sound.
      1. a. NOTE: If Notification sound is grayed-out, first ensure the Sound profile is set to Normal.
    5. Tap the desired notification sound.
    6. Tap Apply.

    NOTE: You can also change application-specific notification sounds by viewing the Settings menu within the given application.

    To access the settings menu from the Home screen, press the Menu key, and then tap Settings. The following categories are listed:

    Wireless & networks
    Tap the desired slider to turn a connection on or off, or tap the connection type (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Mobile network) to access additional settings.

    Usage
    Quickly check to see how much data you have used in your billing cycle and which applications are using the most data. You can configure this tool to also show the same statistics for Wi-Fi data usage.

    Enable/disable Airplane mode, configure VPN connections, configure the portable Wi-Fi settings and more.

    Personalize
    Make your device truly yours with the various personalization options available.

    Call
    Manage in-call settings such as fixed dialing numbers, configure voicemail, enable hearing aid compatibility, configure call forwarding, manage internet call settings, and more.

    Beats Audio
    Enable or disable Beats Audio. This setting is only available if a headset is plugged in.

    Sound

    • Choose sounds to use for notifications.

    • Check the available space in the internal storage and your storage card.
    • Erase the internal storage or storage card content.
    • From this screen, be sure to un-mount your storage card before you remove it from the device.
    • You can also do a factory data reset to delete all non-factory data and restore default settings.

    Power
    Configure your power settings, check the battery level and see which applications have been consuming the most battery.

    Apps
    Manage running applications, install or uninstall apps and more.

    App Associations
    Configure which apps are used by default when certain activities are performed. 

    Accounts & sync

    • Log in or out of your social network accounts, Google Account, and Exchange ActiveSync account.
    • Sign in or out of your HTCSense.com account.
    • You can also manage synchronization and other settings for your accounts.

    Location

    • Select the sources to use when determining your location.
    • Select Tablet finder so you can use HTCSense.com to locate your device

    Connect to PC

    • Set the default USB connection type to use whenever you connect your device to your computer.
    • Or, select the Ask me check box to set your device to always display the screen for selecting the USB connection type.

    Security
    Set a screen lock, enable the SIM card lock, or manage the credential storage.

    Language & keyboard
    Set the operating system language and region. You can also set onscreen keyboard options.

    Privacy
    Choose to automatically back up some settings (e.g. Wi-Fi passwords or Bookmarks) to Google servers using your Google Account so you can restore them when needed.

    Date & time
    Set the date and time, time zone, and date or time format.

    Accessibility
    Use these settings when you’ve downloaded and installed an accessibility tool, such as a screen reader that provides voice feedback. You can turn accessibility functions or services on or off.

    AT&T software update
    Manually check to see if a software update is available for your device.

    Develop option
    Configure advanced settings for your device such as USB debugging, Stay awake, User interface options, application options and more.

    About phone

    • Turn Tell HTC on or off. When enabled, you will be able to send us a report if your device encounters a technical problem.

    1. Connect your device to your PC using the provided micro USB cable.
    2. On the Choose a connection type pop-up, select USB Tethering and tap Done.
      1. a. If the pop-up is no longer displayed, drag down the Notifications menu and tap Select to Change USB Connection type.
    3. Choose your computer operating system: Windows or Mac OS X. The connection process will now begin.

    Turn the Wi-Fi Hotspot on from the All apps menu

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Wi-Fi Hotspot.
    3. Tap OK.
    4. Tap to enable Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot.

    Turn the Wi-Fi Hotspot on from the Settings menu

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap More.
    4. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
    5. Tap to check Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on/off.

    Change the Wi-Fi Hotspot settings

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Wi-Fi Hotspot.
    3. Change the settings as desired:
      1. a. Router name (SSID) – The Wi-Fi network name users see when trying to connect to your hotspot.
        b. Security – Which security type you wish to use to secure your hotspot (None/WEP/WPA/WPA2).
        c. Password – The security password users will need to enter to access your hotspot.
        d. Manage users – Choose the maximum number of users who can access your hotspot (1-8) and whether or not access is limited to allowed users.

    I set an unlock pattern on my device and don’t recall what it is. How to I unlock my device?

    If you’ve forgotten your screen lock pattern, you have up to five attempts to try and unlock your device.
    If this fails, you can unlock your device by entering your Google Account user name and password.

    1. On the unlock screen, enter your lock pattern.
    2. After the fifth attempt, when you’re asked to wait for 30 seconds, tap OK.
    3. If the display goes off, press the Power button to turn the display back on, and then unlock the screen.
    4. Tap the Forgot pattern? button when it appears.
    5. Enter your Google Account name and password, and then tap Sign in. You’ll then be asked to create a new screen lock pattern. If you no longer want to do so, tap Cancel.

    If you have not set up Gmail or do not recall your Gmail login information, you will have to factory reset your device and reconfigure it for use.

    NOTE: A Factory reset will permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will remove any applications you've downloaded and installed. SD and SIM card data will not be deleted.

    To perform a factory reset on your device:

    • With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume Down key and press and release the Power key continuing to hold Volume down.
      • If the Fast Boot option is enabled (default setting), remove and replace the battery to temporarily disable Fast Boot.
    • Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the Volume Down key.
    • Press Volume Down to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the Power key.

    HTC Sync is not compatible with Macintosh computers. While you will be unable to use HTC Sync to synchronize your PIM information, you can transfer files such as music, movies, photos, etc. to your HTC Device by mounting the device as a disk drive.

    How do I Protect my SIM card with a PIN?

    You can add another layer of security to your device by assigning a PIN (personal identification number) to your SIM. Once enabled, the SIM will require entry of the correct SIM PIN before it will connect to the mobile network. If your device reboots or the SIM is placed in another device, you will be asked to enter your SIM PIN before they are able to connect.

    Note: Make sure you have the default SIM PIN provided by your mobile operator before continuing.

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Security.
    4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    5. Tap to check Lock SIM card.
    6. Enter the default SIM card PIN, and then tap OK.
    7. To change the SIM card PIN, tap Change SIM PIN.

    Restoring a SIM card that has been locked out
    If you enter the wrong PIN more times than the maximum number of attempts allowed, your SIM card will become “PUK -locked.”  You need a PUK code to restore access to your device. This code may have been provided by your mobile operator when you received your SIM card. If you do not have the PUK code, contact your mobile operator.

    1. On the keypad screen, enter the PUK code and then tap Next.
    2. Enter the new PIN you want to use and then tap Next.
    3. Enter the new PIN again and then tap OK.

    3. If this is the first time you have connected your device in Internet pass-through mode, wait for the NDIS drivers to install on your computer. Once the drivers are installed, the connection process will begin.

    I set a PIN or Password lock on my device and don’t recall what it is. How do I unlock my device?

      NOTE: If unable to locate the desired device, repeat steps 4 and 5.
      1. a. If prompted, note the Passkey displayed on the handset and compare it to the passkey displayed on the pairing device or PC. Accept pairing on any dialog boxes displayed on your pairing device or PC.
        b. If prompted, enter the password, and tap OK.
        NOTE: The default password is 0000 or 1234.
    7. Tap Pair.
    8. Ensure the other device accepts the pairing.

    6. Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep.
    7. Select Never.

    How do I connect to a VPN with my device?

    You may add, set up and manage virtual private networks (VPNs) so you can connect and access resources inside a secured local network, such as your corporate network. Depending on the type of VPN you’re using at work, you may be asked to enter your login credentials or install security certificates before you can connect to your company’s local network. Contact your network administrator for more information.

    NOTE: Your device must be connected to a Wi-Fi or data connection before you can start a VPN connection.

    Adding a VPN connection

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap More.
    4. Tap VPN.
    5. Tap Add VPN.
    6. Tap the type of VPN you want to connect to (PPTP/L2TP/L2TP IPSec PSK/L2TP IPSec CRT).
    7. Configure your VPN settings according to the security details provided by your network administrator.
    8. Tap Save.
    9. The VPN is now added to the VPNs section of the VPN settings screen.

    Connecting to a VPN

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap More.
    4. Tap VPN.
    5. In the VPNs section, tap the VPN you want to connect to.
    6. When asked, enter your log in credentials, and then tap Connect. When you’re connected, the VPN connected icon (a white key) appears in the notification bar.
    7. You can then open the web browser to access resources such as your corporate network intranet.

    Disconnecting from a VPN

    1. Press and hold the title bar, and then slide down your finger to open the Notifications panel.
    2. Tap the VPN connection to return to the VPN settings screen, and then tap the VPN connection to disconnect from it.
    3. When your device has disconnected from the VPN, the VPN disconnected icon (a grey key) is displayed in the notification area of the title bar.

    • To sync email attachments stored on the storage card to your computer, you must set up an Exchange ActiveSync or POP3 /IMAP email account from the Mail app on your device.
    1. On the Device panel of HTC Sync on your PC, click Documents, and then click the On button. Turning Documents sync on means you want this category included every time you sync your computer and your device.
    2. To sync email attachments that you've stored on the storage card, select Copy all downloaded Mail documents to PC.
    3. Select Sync PC documents from, and then click Add.
    4. Choose a folder that contains the documents you want to sync on your device, and then click OK.

    Email attachments from the storage card will be saved to the \My Documents\ folder on your computer. Documents from your computer will be saved to the \My Documents\ folder on your storage card.

    NOTE: Once you create an event, you will be unable to change which calendar that event is tied to.

      • Pattern - Set a screen lock pattern by following the onscreen instructions.

    6. On the Security screen, tap Lock phone after, then specify the idle time you wish to allow before the screen is locked.

    Tip: You can also clear the check box next to Make pattern visible on the Security screen if you don’t want your screen lock to display as you enter it onscreen.

    Changing your screen lock

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key, and then tap Settings > Security.
    2. Tap Change screen lock.
    3. Enter your current screen lock to confirm that you want to change it.

    You can use Bluetooth to send information from your device to another Bluetooth enabled device such as another phone or a computer. You can send the following types of information, depending on the device you are sending to:

    2. On your device, choose Disk drive as the connection type. This will allow you to access the micro SD card on your device from the computer and be able to copy music onto the micro SD card.
    3. On your computer, open the new removable disk.
    4. If it doesn’t already exist, create a folder on the root folder of the micro SD card and name it “notifications” or “alarms” depending on the type of sound you are looking for.
    5. Copy your desired MP3 files to this folder. Any song or MP3 file that you put on the notifications/alarms folder will be added on to the list of available notifications on the handset.
    6. Disconnect the USB cable from your device, or turn off USB storage on your device. Your song will now be listed as an available notification.
