    Device Features

    Silence your device
    Press the Volume Down button until Silent is displayed.

    Change ringtones
    From the Home screen, tap All apps > Personalize > Sound (tab) and then tap Ringtone.

    Set a music file as a ringtone
    Open the music file in the Music application, press the Menu key, and then tap Set as ringtone.

    Dial a specific contact
    Open the Phone application and spell out the contact using the Device keypad.

    Enable or Disable the Save to Contacts feature
    Open the Phone application, press the Menu key, tap Settings and then check or uncheck the Save to contacts box.

    View call history
    Open the Phone application and then tap Call history

    General Tips

    How to insert or remove the battery

    To insert

    1. Slide the back cover up from the bottom of the device.
    2. Lift the cover off of the device.
    3. Insert the battery with the gold contacts facing the gold contacts on the device.
    4. Replace the back cover and slide it down into place.

    To remove

    1. Slide the back cover up from the bottom of the device.
    2. Lift the cover off of the device.
    3. Lift the top edge of the battery (near the camera) and remove it from the device.

    Check current data usage
    From the Settings menu tap Usage. Set your current billing cycle and then track how much data you have used. You can configure this window to show WiFi data usage as well.

    Access the System Status (Signal strength, Network, battery level, etc.)

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap About Phone.
    4. Tap one of the following:
      • Network
      • Phone identity
      • Hardware information
      • Software information

    Return to the Home Screen
    Press the Home key while on any screen or in any application.

    Improve the battery’s performance
    To improve your battery performance, make any of the changes listed below that you are comfortable with. The more of these changes you can make, the better performance you will get from your battery.

    • When you stop using the device, press the Power button on the top of the device to turn off the screen.
    • Use the wall adapter to charge your device whenever possible.
    • Close apps when you are done using them, especially if they connect to the network or use a lot of memory.
    • Turn off automatic synchronization.  (Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > tap the slider to turn Auto Sync off)
    • Reduce backlight duration. (Menu > Settings > Display)
    • Lower the screen brightness. (Menu > Settings > Display)
    • Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS when they are not needed.
    • Evaluate and remove third-party apps that drain battery. Apps that use Wi-Fi, GPS, data connections, or always run in the background can drain your battery more quickly. To evaluate if other people have had poor battery performance with an app, follow these steps:
      1. 1. From the Home screen, tap the All apps button.
        2. Tap Market.
        3. Press the Menu key.
        4. Tap My apps.
        5. Tap an app to check.
        6. Scroll down to the comments and tap Read all comments.
        7. See if there other people have complained about the app reducing battery life.
        8. If there are negative comments regarding battery life, you can uninstall the app to increase your battery performance.

    Managing Memory

    Check how much internal storage is available for use

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Storage. The available storage for use is displayed in the Internal storage section.

    Check the available storage card space

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Storage. The total and available storage card space is displayed in the SD card section.

    Clear application cache and data

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Apps.
    4. On the All tab, tap an application.
    5. On the application information screen, tap Clear data and/or Clear cache.

    Uninstall third-party applications

    Note: You cannot uninstall applications that are preinstalled on your device.

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Apps.
    4. On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you wish to uninstall.
    5. Tap Uninstall.

    Move applications to or from the storage card
    Move downloaded applications to the storage card if the internal storage on your device is getting low. Or, if your storage card is getting full, you can also move applications from the storage card to the internal storage.

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Apps.
    4. On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you want to move.
    5. Choose whether to move the application to the storage card or to device.

    Note: You can only move applications that are not preinstalled on your device. Some downloaded applications also may not be able to be moved to the memory card.

    Stop running applications using Task Manager
    Free up memory by using Task Manager to stop running applications when you aren’t using them.

    1. From the Home screen, drag down the notification bar.
    2. Tap Quick Settings.
    3. Tap Total Memory.
    4. In the All applications list, tap the X to the right of an application’s name to stop it, or Kill all to stop all running applications.

    Switch between running applications
    Press and hold the Home button to show the current running applications. 

    Close running applications
    Press and hold the Home button to show the current running applications. Swipe right over the desired application to close it.

    Supported audio files for ringtones
    This device supports *.3gp, *.mp3, *.mid, *.m4a, *.mmf, *.wma, HiFi (mp3, aac), Megatones (Midi), and Polyphonic sound files as ring tones.

    View which applications are running

    • Open the All apps menu and tap Task Manager to view all running programs.
    • Press and hold the Home button until the task list appears to swit<c<h between recent apps.

    Enable or disable audible selection
    You can choose to play a sound when you are selecting items onscreen.

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Sound.
    4. Select the Audible selection check box.

    Typing

    Access the keyboard
    Tap in a text box and the keyboard will appear.

    Close the keyboard
    Tap the keyboard down icon on the bottom left of the keyboard.

    Turn on CAPS
    Tap the up arrow/Shift key twice. You will see a line appear under the arrow up.

    Access the special characters on the top of each letter
    Tap and hold the desired key until the desired character appears.

    Access the number pad
    Tap the 12# button on the keyboard.

    Messaging

    Access text messages
    On the Home Screen, tap All apps and then tap Messages

    Create a new message
    Open Messages then tap the Compose button (+ icon in the top-right corner).

    Reply to a message
    Tap on the desired message thread, and then tap in the Add text area to reply.

    Forward a message
    Tap and hold on the desired message or thread then tap Forward on the menu.

    Delete a message
    Tap and hold on the desired message then tap Delete message on the menu.

    Attach a picture to a message
    While composing a message, tap the Attach (paperclip) icon, or press Menu then tap Attach. Choose Picture from the menu.

    Attachments Tips and Tricks

    Viewing and saving an attachment from a multimedia message
    If you are concerned about the size of your data downloads, check the multimedia message size first before you download it.

    Note: When Auto-retrieve in MMS settings is disabled, only the message header is downloaded. To download the entire message, tap the Download button at the right side of the message.

    • If there’s a media attachment such as a photo or video in a received message, tap it to view the content.
    • If the attachment is a contact (vCard), tap it to view the contact information, and then tap Save to add to your contacts.
    • If the attachment is an appointment or event (vCalendar), tap it to choose which calendar to save it in, and then tap Import.
    • To save the attachment to your storage card, press and hold the multimedia message, and then choose to save the type of attachment from the options menu.

    Attachments

    Download an attachment
    Tap on the down arrow next to the name of the attachment.

    View all emails with attachments
    From the email application, press the Menu key, tap Edit tabs and then drag the Attached icon down to the bar at the bottom of the screen. Return to the email application and then tap on the Attached tab to view all emails with attachments.

    Open an attachment
    Select email with attachment, download the attachment and then tap the Preview icon.

    Save an attachment
    Select email with attachment, download the attachment, tap the Preview icon, press the Menu key, Select Save or Save as.

    Note: Not all attachment types can be saved.

    From the Home Screen

    What is the Extended Home screen?
    From the Home screen (if in another application, press the Home key to return to the Home screen), slide your finger horizontally across the screen to go to the left or right side of the extended Home screen. There are up to 6 additional screens apart from the main Home screen.

    What is HTC Sense Leap?
    Leap allows you to combine all screens into one page to quickly leap from one page to another. On the main home screen, press the Home key and you will enter Leap mode. If on an Extended Home screen, press the Home key to return to the main Home screen, and then press the Home key again to enter Leap mode.

    Note: You can also perform a Pinch gesture while on any panel of the home screen to get to Leap.

    Add a widget, shortcut, or folder to the Home screen

    You can customize your Home screen to display applications, shortcuts, and widgets.

    1. Tap and hold a vacant spot on the Home screen.
    2. Tap Widget, App or Shortcut.
    3. Tap the desired item to add.

    Tip: To add an app icon on the Home screen you can also press the Home key, tap All apps, and then press and hold an app icon. Without lifting your finger, drag the icon to an empty area on the Home screen, and then release it.

    To create a folder, simply drag an icon over another icon and then release. The two icons will then be placed into a folder. To add other icons to the folder, simply drag another icon over the folder and release.

    Change the settings of a widget
    You can modify basic settings of some widgets (for example, the People and Mail widgets) from the Home screen.

    1. Press and hold a widget on the Home screen.
    2. Your device vibrates and you’ll see a colored box around the widget. Don’t lift your finger just yet.
    3. Drag the widget to the Edit button (if it’s enabled).
    4. The relevant screen where you can change some settings for this widget then opens.
    5. Customize the widget settings as desired.

    Change the name of a folder

    1. On the home screen, tap the folder to open it.
    2. Tap and hold the title bar of the folder window.
    3. Edit the Folder name as desired.
    4. When finished, tap OK.

    Remove an icon from the Home screen

    1. Tap and hold the icon that you want to remove.
    2. Slide the icon to the Remove trash can at the top of the screen.

    Personalize the Home screen using Scenes

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap the Display tab.
    4. Tap Scenes.
    5. Swipe left or right to select a scene.
    6. When the desired Scene is selected, tap Apply.
      Note: The arrangements of any widgets, apps, shortcuts, or folders you add to the Home screen in this mode are saved automatically.

    Personalize the Home screen using Skins

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap the Display tab.
    4. Tap Skin.
    5. Swipe left or right to select a skin.
    6. When the desired Skin is selected, tap Apply.
      Note: The arrangements of any widgets, apps, shortcuts, or folders you add to the Home screen in this mode are saved automatically.

    Change the wallpaper

    1. From the home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap the Display tab.
    4. Tap Wallpaper.
    5. Tap one of the following:
      • HTC wallpapers – Choose a preset wallpaper, then tap Preview, and then tap Apply.
      • Live wallpapers – Choose from preset animated wallpapers. Tap Preview to view the animation, and then tap Apply.
      • Gallery – Choose an existing photo. Crop the photo and then tap Save.

    Note: To download more wallpapers from HTC, tap Get more from within the HTC wallpapers screen.

    Set a picture as my wallpaper on the device
    You can set a picture you have taken and/or saved to your device or choose from preloaded options.

    1. From the Home Screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Gallery.
    3. Choose a picture you would like to assign and tap to view it.
    4. Tap More.
    5. Tap Set as.
    6. Tap Wallpaper.
    7. Select the desired cropped area to display as your wallpaper, and then tap Save.

    Browser

    Access the browser
    From the Home screen, tap All apps and then tap Internet.

    Switch windows
    Press the Menu key, tap Windows, and then tap on the desired window.

    Open a desired webpage
    Tap on the address bar and enter the desired URL, then tap the enter key or Go (play) button.

    Zoom out on a webpage
    Use two fingers to make a pinching motion on the screen, or just double tap on the screen.

    Zoom In on a webpage
    Use two fingers to make an outward pinching motion on the screen, or just double tap the screen.

    Start a Google search
    Press the Magnifying glass button to bring up the search window. Enter your search text and then tap the Enter key.

    Create a bookmark
    While on the desired webpage, press the Menu key and then tap then Add bookmark.

    Rotate the screen
    Simply turn the device either to portrait or landscape mode.

    Close a browser window
    Press the Menu key, tap Windows and then tap the X on the window you want to close.

    Open a new incognito (private) window
    Press the Menu key, tap Windows and then tap the mask icon to open a new incognito window.

    Troubleshoot an Internet Connection
    Important: Contact your carrier or HTC technical support if you feel uncomfortable performing – or do not know how to perform – any of the following steps.

    1. Remove and re-insert the battery.
    2. Verify that the network signal is sufficient. (3-4 bars preferred)
    3. Verify that Wi-Fi is turned off.
    4. Verify that mobile networks are turned on:
      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap the slider to turn Mobile network On.
    5. Verify that airplane mode is turned OFF:
      1. Press and hold the power button, then check if Airplane mode is OFF.
      2. If Airplane mode is ON, tap Airplane mode to turn it OFF.
        Note: When airplane mode is on, you can still use the device but the wireless connections are turned off.
    6. Clear the browser cache. For an alternate way to clear the browser cache is if the browser is not working correctly, follow these steps:
      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Apps.
      4. Tap the All tab.
      5. Tap Internet.
      6. Tap Clear cache.
      7. Tap Force stop.
      8. Tap Clear defaults.
    7. Remove and re-insert the battery again.
    8. Attempt to access the Internet once the device is on and has a network connection again.
    9. If the issue persists, remove the SIM card and re-insert it to verify it is inserted correctly.
    10. If the issue persists, back up files, and then perform a factory data reset. See the General and Other category for more information on performing a factory data reset.
