    Messaging

    Access text messages
    On the Home Screen, tap the All apps icon, and then tap Messages.

    Create a new message
    Open Messages then tap Compose.

    Reply to a message
    Tap on the desired message thread, and then tap in the Add text area to reply.

    Forward a message
    Tap and hold on the desired message thread then tap Forward on the menu.

    Delete a message
    Tap and hold on the desired message then tap Delete message on the menu.

    Attach a picture to a message
    While composing a message, tap the Attach (paperclip) icon, or press Menu then tap Attach. Choose Picture from the menu.

    Phone Features
    Silence your phone

    Press the Volume Down button until the silent icon(speaker with an X beside it) is displayed.

    Change ringtones
    From the Home screen, press the Menu key, tap Personalize , tap Sound and tap Ringtone.

    Set a music file as a ringtone
    Open the music file in the Music application, press the Menu key, tap More, and then tap Set as ringtone.

    Dial a specific contact
    Open the Phone application and spell out the contact using the Phone keypad.

    Enable or Disable the Save to Contacts feature
    Open the Phone application, press the Menu key, tap Settings and then check or uncheck the Save to contacts box.

    View call history
    Open the Phone application, press the Menu key and then tap Call history.

    General Tips

    Access the System Status (Signal strength, Network, battery level, etc.)

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap About Phone.
    4. Tap one of the following:
      • Network
      • Phone identity
      • Battery
      • Hardware information
      • Software information

      Return to the Home Screen
      Press the Home key while on any screen or in any application.

      Improve the battery’s performance
      To improve your battery performance, make any of the changes listed below that you are comfortable with. The more of these changes you can make, the better performance you will get from your battery.

      • When you stop using the phone, press the Power button on the top of the phone to turn off the screen.
      • Use the wall adapter to charge your phone whenever possible.
      • Close apps when you are done using them, especially if they connect to the network or use a lot of memory.
      • Turn off automatic synchronization.  (Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > uncheck Background  data)
      • Reduce backlight duration. (Menu > Settings > Display)
      • Lower the screen brightness. (Menu > Settings > Display)
      • Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS when they are not needed.
      • Evaluate and remove third-party apps that drain battery. Apps that use Wi-Fi, GPS, data connections, or always run in the background can drain your battery more quickly. To evaluate if other people have had poor battery performance with an app, follow these steps:
          1. From the Home screen, tap the All apps button. 2. Tap Market. 3. Press the Menu key. 4. Tap My apps. 5. Tap an app to check. 6. Scroll down to the comments and tap Read all comments. 7. See if there other people have complained about the app reducing battery life. 8. If there are negative comments regarding battery life, you can uninstall the app to increase your battery performance.

      Managing Memory

      Check how much internal storage is available for use

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap SD & phone storage. The available storage for use is displayed in the Internal storage section.

      Check the available storage card space

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap SD & phone storage. The total and available storage card space is displayed in the SD card section.

      Clear application cache

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Applications.
      4. Tap Manage applications.
      5. On the All tab, tap an application.
      6. On the application information screen, tap Clear cache.

      Uninstall third-party applications
      Note: You cannot uninstall applications that are preinstalled on your phone.

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Applications.
      4. Tap Manage applications.
      5. On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you wish to uninstall.
      6. Tap Uninstall.

      Move applications to or from the storage card
      Move downloaded applications to the storage card if the internal storage on your phone is getting low. Or, if your storage card is getting full, you can also move applications from the storage card to the internal storage.

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Applications.
      4. Tap Manage applications.
      5. On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you want to move.
      6. Choose whether to move the application to the storage card or to phone.

      Note: You can only move applications that are not preinstalled on your phone. Some downloaded applications also may not be able to be moved to the memory card.

      Stop running applications using Task Manager
      Free up memory by using Task Manager to stop running applications when you aren’t using them.

      1. From the Home screen, drag down the notification bar.
      2. Tap Quick Settings.
      3. Tap Total Memory.
      4. In the All applications list, tap the X to the right of an application’s name to stop it, or Kill all to stop all running applications.

      Switch between recently used applications
      Press and hold the Home button to show the 8 most recently used applications.

      Enable or disable audible selection
      You can choose to play a sound when you are selecting items onscreen.

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Sound.
      4. Select the Audible selection check box.

    Attachments

    Download an attachment
    Tap on the down arrow next to the name of the attachment.

    Open an attachment
    Select email with attachment, download the attachment and then tap the Preview icon.

    Browser

    Access the browser
    From the Home screen, tap the All apps button and then tap Internet.

    Switch windows
    Press the Menu key, tap Windows, and then tap on the desired window.

    Open a desired webpage
    Tap on the address bar and enter the desired URL, then tap the enter key or Go.

    Zoom out on a webpage
    Use two fingers to make an inward pinching motion on the screen, or just double tap on the screen.
    Note: double tap will toggle between zooming in and out of a the web page.

    Start a Google search
    Press the Magnifying glass button to bring up the search window. Enter your search text and then tap the Enter key.

    Create a bookmark
    While on the desired webpage, press the Menu key, tap Add and then tap Add bookmark.

    Rotate the screen
    Simply turn the phone either to portrait or landscape mode.

    Switch browser windows
    Pinch the screen until you see a thumbnail of the page and you can jump between windows that you have opened.

    Close a browser window
    Pinch the screen to display the open windows, and then tap the X on the window you want to close.
    Note: You will only see an X if you have more than one window open.

    Troubleshoot an Internet Connection

    Important: Contact your carrier or HTC technical support if you feel uncomfortable performing – or do not know how to perform – any of the following steps.

    1. Verify that the network signal is sufficient. (3-4 bars preferred)
    2. Verify that Wi-Fi is turned off.
    3. Verify that mobile networks are turned on:
      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Wireless & networks.
      4. Tap to select the Mobile Network check box.
    4. Verify that airplane mode is turned OFF:
      1. Press and hold the power button, then check if Airplane mode is OFF.
      2. If Airplane mode is ON, tap Airplane mode to turn it OFF.
        Note: When airplane mode is on, you can still use the phone but the wireless connections are turned off.
    5. Clear the browser cache. For an alternate way to clear the browser cache is if the browser is not working correctly, follow these steps:
      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Applications.
      4. Tap Manage applications.
      5. Tap the All tab.
      6. Tap Internet.
      7. Tap Clear cache.
      8. Tap Force stop.
      9. Tap Clear defaults.
    6. Press and hold the power button and tap Restart.
    7. Attempt to access the Internet once the phone is on and has a network connection again.
    8. If the issue persists, back up files, and then perform a factory data reset. See the General and Other category for more information on performing a factory data reset.

    From the Home Screen

    How do I modify my Date and Time that show on my Home/Today screen?
    By default, the date and time for your phone are determined by your location using GPS or network-based location services; there is no need to manually adjust these settings. However, if you would like to manually change your time:

    1. From the Home Screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Date and time.
    4. Uncheck Automatic.
    5. Tap Set Date.
    6. Once complete tap Set time zone.
    7. Once complete tap Set time.

    What is the Extended Home screen?
    From the Home screen (if in another application, press the Home key to return to the Home screen), slide your finger horizontally across the screen to go to the left or right side of the extended Home screen. There are up to 6 additional screens apart from the main Home screen.

    What is Leap View?
    Leap view allows you to combine all screens into one page and quickly leap from one page to another. On the main home screen, press the Home key and you will enter Leap view. If on an Extended Home screen, press the Home key to return to the main Home screen, and then press the Home key again to enter Leap mode.

    Note: You can also perform a Pinch gesture while on any panel of the home screen to get to Leap.

    Add a widget, shortcut, or folder to the Home screen
    You can customize your Home screen to display applications, shortcuts, and widgets. Add an application, widget, or shortcut to the Home screen.

    1. Tap and hold a vacant spot on the Home screen.
    2. Tap Add to Home
    3. Choose to add a Widget, App, Shortcut or Folder.

    Tip: To add an app icon on the Home screen you can also press the Home key, tap the All apps button, and then press and hold an app icon. Without lifting your finger, drag the icon to an empty area on the Home screen, and then release it.

    Change the settings of a widget
    You can modify basic settings of some widgets (for example, the People and Mail widgets) from the Home screen.

    1. Tap and hold a widget on the Home screen.
    2. Your phone vibrates and you’ll see a colored box around the widget. Don’t lift your finger just yet.
    3. Drag the widget to the Edit button located on the bottom left of the screen (if it’s enabled).
    4. The relevant screen where you can change some settings for this widget then opens.
    5. Customize the widget settings as desired.

    Change the name of a folder

    1. On the home screen, tap the folder to open it.
    2. Tap and hold the title bar of the folder window.
    3. Edit the Folder name as desired.
    4. When finished, tap OK.

    Remove an icon from the Home screen

    1. Tap and hold the icon that you want to remove.
    2. Slide the icon to the Remove trash can at the bottom right of the screen.
    3. Tap anywhere on the home screen when done.

    Personalize the Home screen using Scenes

    1. From the Home screen, tap Menu
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap Display.
    4. Tap Scene.
    5. Swipe left or right to select a scene.
    6. When the desired Scene is selected, tap Apply.
      Note: The arrangements of any widgets, apps, shortcuts, or folders you add to the Home screen in this mode are saved automatically.

    Personalize the Home screen using Skins

    1. From the Home screen, tap Menu
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap Display.
    4. Tap Skin.
    5. Swipe left or right to select a skin.
    6. When the desired Skin is selected, tap Apply.

    Change the wallpaper

    1. From the Home screen, tap Menu
    2. Tap Personalize.
    3. Tap Display.
    4. Tap Wallpaper.
    5. Tap one of the following:
      • HTC wallpapers – Choose a preset wallpaper, then tap Preview, and then tap Apply.
      • Live wallpapers – Choose from preset animated wallpapers. Tap Preview to view the animation, and then tap Apply.
      • Gallery – Choose an existing photo. Crop the photo and then tap Save.

    How do I set a picture as my wallpaper on the phone?
    You can set a picture you have taken and/or saved to your phone or choose from preloaded options.

    1. From the Home Screen, press the All apps button.
    2. Tap Gallery.
    3. Choose a picture you would like to assign and tap to view it.
    4. Tap the picture and choose More.
    5. Tap Set as.
    6. Tap Wallpaper.
    7. Select the desired cropped area to display as your wallpaper, and then tap Save.

    Typing

    Access the keyboard
    Tap in a text box and the keyboard will appear.

    Close the keyboard
    Tap the keyboard down icon on the bottom left of the keyboard.

    Turn on CAPS
    Tap the up arrow/Shift key twice. You will see a line appear under the arrow up.

    Access the special characters on the top of each letter
    Tap and hold the desired key until the desired character appears.

    Access the number pad
    Tap the 12# button on the keyboard.

    Calendar

    Open the calendar
    From the home screen, tap the All apps button then tap Calendar.

    Create a new appointment
    While in the calendar, tap Add event and fill in the necessary information.

    Switch to Agenda View
    While in the calendar, tap the Agenda button.

    Open an appointment
    Tap on the appointment.

    Delete an appointment
    Tap and hold on the appointment and select Delete from the menu.

    View or hide calendars
    While in the Calendar application, tap on All calendar (it might say Multi-calendar if you have hidden at least one calendar) drop down from the top, then check or uncheck the calendars as desired.
