    You can also enable Instant Upload, which will upload all pictures you take with the camera on your HTC smartphone to a private folder on your Google+ account.     How do I stop applications from running in the background?

    Your device has three methods of managing memory and stopping applications:

    1. Recent apps – From any screen, tap the Recent apps key to display the applications currently running applications. Swipe any of these application references left or right to quickly end the task.
    2. Task Manager – Tap the X icon next to the desired running app or tap Kill all to close all running apps.
    3. Running Services
      a. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
      b. Tap Settings.
      c. Tap Apps.
      d. Tap Running.
      e. Tap the service you wish to close, and tap Stop.
      Note: There are important system processes available in this view, so be very careful to only stop processes that you recognize.

    How do I share media from my device to my TV?

    Option 1: Media Link HD

    With the Media Link HD accessory, you can mirror your device display on your TV. Share pictures, movies, games and more – all in HD quality. All you need is a TV with an HDMI port and the HTC Media Link HD adapter. To set up Media Link HD:

    Setting up the Media Link HD adapter

    1. Purchase the Media Link HD adapter from your carrier or other retailer.
    2. Connect the provided USB cable to the Media Link HD.
    3. Connect the USB cable to the provided power adapter and plug in to an electrical outlet.
        a. Note: If your TV has a USB port that supports power transfer, you can plug the USB cable directly into the TV instead of plugging it into an electrical outlet.
    4. Connect the supplied HDMI cable to the Media Link HD and your TV.
    5. On your TV, change the video input to the appropriate HDMI port.

    1. Connect your device to your home Wi-Fi network.
        a. Ensure you have completed the steps above and the Media Link HD is powered on.
    2. Use three fingers to swipe up on your device.
    3. Follow the instructions to configure your device.

    Option 2: DLNA

    Connect your device to your home Wi-Fi network and instantly show your captured photos and videos on a supported big-screen TV, or start streaming your favorite music tracks on hi-fi speakers — all via DLNA®. For more information about DLNA, visit www.dlna.org.

    Before you share media through the network:

    • Connect your device to the network via Wi-Fi.
    • Connect the TV or speakers to the network. Check the documentation that came with your TV or speakers to know how.

    Share media from Gallery or Music

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap the Gallery or Music application.
    3. Locate the media that you want to share, and then tap it.
    4. While viewing the photo or playing the song/video, tap Menu (Music) or More (Gallery).
    5. Tap Select player.
    6. Choose the device on your network where you want to play the media.
    7. Once connected to the other device, your device opens up the Controller screen.

    What is Gmail?

    The Gmail application is used to manage the email associated to the default Google account on your device, and is designed to have many of the same features as the Gmail website. Once you have set up your default Google account, this application will automatically be configured.

    How do I take panoramic pictures with my device?
    1. From the Camera application, tap the Scenes icon (A if the Auto scene is active).
    2. Tap Panorama.
    3. Using the level, ensure the camera is steady and then tap the shutter icon.
    4. Pan left or right (or up/down) slowly while keeping the camera steady until the target has connected with the dot. Continue to pan until you have connected to the third dot.
    5. The three pictures will be stitched together to display a panoramic image.

    How do I install applications that are not from Play Store?

    To enable installation of applications that are not from Play store, you must first enable applications from unknown sources.

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Security.
    4. Tap to check Unknown sources. Once this is enabled, install the application as directed by the developer’s Web site.

    What is HTC Hub?

    HTC Hub is an online store that allows you to download and install content recommended for your device from HTC. There are two primary services in HTC Hub:

    Applications - Contains information on recommended apps for your device, including “likes” and comments from other HTC Sense users. Once you select to download an app, you will be redirected to Play Store to complete the download and install process.

    Personalization – Download additional alarms, ringtones, themes, wallpapers and more that were developed by HTC for your HTC device.

    NOTE: An HTC Sense account is required to download content from HTC Hub.

    Car mode gives you easy access to features that are most useful in the car. When using an official car dock, car mode will open automatically when the device is attached. When not using a dock, or using a generic dock, car mode will still work by simply opening the app.

    • The main panel displays the popular weather clock and quick access to the Phone dialer, Google Maps Navigation, on device music and TuneIn internet radio.
    • Tap the small indicators at the bottom of the screen to access the Car Mode settings.

    In order to have the Weather information update automatically as you change locations, the Location setting needs to be enabled for GPS. You are prompted to select this option during the initial set up of the device. If need be, these settings can also be manually changed:

    3. Tap Location.
    4. Tap to check GPS Satellites.

    How can I take multiple pictures simultaneously?

    While in the Camera application, press and hold the shutter button to take up to 20 pictures in rapid succession (one picture every 0.2 seconds).

    When complete, tap on the thumbnail preview to display all pictures taken using the continuous shooting feature. If desired, tap on the picture you like best and then tap Best shot. This picture will be saved and all others deleted.

    How do I move the storage location for an application?

    By default, all applications on the handset are installed to the Internal Storage partition (used specifically for apps and app data). An application can be moved to the Phone Storage partition if it was designed by the developer to have that function. To move applications to Phone Storage:

    1. From the Home screen, tap All apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Apps.
    4. Tap on the application that you want to move and then tap Move to phone storage

    Note: You will not be able to use the applications on Phone storage if the handset is connected to a computer and in Disk drive mode.

    How do I manually modify my camera settings so I can take better photos and videos?

    While using the Camera application, tap the Settings icon to display the various settings.

    • Self-timer allows you to set a timer for 2 or 10 seconds to help you capture that perfect group shot.
    • Image resolution allows you to choose the image quality you want to capture. Higher resolution equals higher quality, but also increases the file size of the captured pictures.
    • Video Quality allows you to choose the video quality you want to record. Higher quality equals larger and clearer videos, but also increases the file size of the recorded videos.
    • Image adjustments gives you the ability to change the following qualities of your pictures: Exposure, Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness.
    • ISO changes the speed of the shutter, generally the darker your environment you are taking pictures in, the higher the ISO setting should be.
    • White Balance gives you the ability to fine tune your pictures based on the lighting conditions, Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, and Cloudy.
    • Camera options gives you options you can enable or disable for your pictures:
      • Face detection focuses the camera on faces while capturing your pictures.
      • Auto smile capture allows the camera to automatically capture the picture when it detects your target is smiling.
      • Widescreen allows you to choose to take your pictures in widescreen (16:9) or standard (4:3) dimensions.
      • Geo-tag photos allows you to choose whether to add geo-location metadata to your photos. Enabling this will allow you to see and share where your pictures were captured.
    • Video options gives you options you can enable or disable for your videos
      • Video stabilization adds an effect that will keep your videos stable even with a slightly shaky hand.
      • Record with audio allows you to choose whether or not your videos are recorded with sound
      • Stereo recording adds extra sound quality for your recorded videos
    • Camera interface allows you to modify the settings your camera uses while capturing a picture
      • Grid adds measurement points to the screen to help make sure your pictures are lined up correctly.
      • Shutter sound allows you to choose whether you want the camera to make a “click” sound when a picture is captured.
    • Auto Upload allows you to automatically upload your pictures to Facebook or Flickr.
    • Reset to default returns your device camera settings to factory default – useful if you are unhappy with settings you have changed.

    The default menu bar is a pop-up bar that appears at the bottom of the screen and can be hidden. If it is in the hidden state, press and hold the Recent apps key to display the bar. To re-hide the bar, tap the down arrow.

    Note: Many apps have their own menu bar, usually available at the top or bottom of the screen. If a custom menu bar exists, the pop-up menu bar will likely be disabled.

    What different camera modes can I use?

    To take pictures that are customized to a specific environment, tap the Scenes icon to choose from the different Scenes (modes) that are available. The icon is located on the bottom-left of the screen when shooting in landscape mode, and is reflective of the scene that is currently active (A will be displayed if Auto mode is active)
    The different scenes are:

    • Slow motion video – Create brilliant slow-motion video without needing to use video editing software later.
    • Auto – Take high quality pictures with a very fast capture speed. This is the default setting and also enables other features such as continuous shooting.
    • HDR – In bright light conditions, bring out the details of both highlights and shadows without washing out the image.
    • Panorama – Extend your shot by taking high quality panoramic pictures.
    • Portrait –Adds a smoothing effect to skin and bringing out the most of the human features.
    • Group portrait – Captures the most possible smiles and fewest blinks.
    • Landscape – Brings out the best features of nature’s wonders.
    • Whiteboard – Take the best possible pictures of highly reflective surfaces
    • Close up – Also known as macro mode, this mode brings out the best colors and features of pictures taken at a close range.
    • Low light – Take great pictures in bad conditions, reducing overexposure caused by using a flash in these conditions (The flash is disabled while using the Low light scene).

    8. Click Safely remove Mass Storage Device.

    Alternatively, you may download the HTC Sync application, which will scan the music library on your computer and allow you to synchronize the desired files.

    Calendar allows you to view multiple calendars from different sources (Exchange, Facebook, Google and personal). You can view your calendar by agenda, day, week, or month. You can add events to each different calendar. You can also invite people to meetings.

    • To add a new calendar item, go to All apps > Calendar. Tap add (+) in the top-right corner.
    • To select which calendar you want to add the event to, in the New Event window, tap the button at the top and pick the calendar you wish to add the event to from the pop-up.
    • To add someone to the meeting, tap the To field under the calendar name and type the desired meeting recipients. Alternatively, tap the People icon to the right of the To field and select attendees from your address book by checking the box(es) next to the contact name(s). Tap Done when finished selecting recipients.
    • To set a location for your event you can enter an address or you can use maps to select a location by tapping the button next to the Event Location field.
    • Once all desired fields are filled out, tap Save.

    How can I install an application I downloaded from my pc to my device?

    To enable the manual installation of an application, you must first enable applications from unknown sources (see the How do I install applications that are not from Play Store? FAQ). Next, you must make sure that the installer is an .apk file, as this is the only file type that can be installed on the Android OS.

    After you have downloaded the installation file to your computer, use the micro USB cable to connect the device to your computer. When prompted, choose Disk drive as the connection type on your device. On your computer, go to the newly mounted Removable Disk and then copy the file to the phone storage. Once the transfer is finished, disconnect your device from your computer.

    In order for you to be able to access the file and install it on your device, you will need a file manager application installed. From the Home screen, tap the All apps button, tap Play Store and search for the keyword “file manager.” Locate and download a file manager application.

    Using your file manager, open the folder where you copied the file. Tap the installation file then tap Install. Once the application is installed, it will be available in your All apps menu.

    3. The dialer entry will become blank, and then you should receive a notification in the notification bar confirming the connection.
