Rated 2 out of 5Â by Scaroni '...could have been a great phone'
One of the best looking Windows 8 Phone's on the market. Easy to use, not ridiculously sized and light enough to operate one handed, without feeling like it'll shatter into a million pieces should you accidentally drop it.
Whilst I never base the purchase of a phone on it's style, it would have been nicer to have a range of colours more widely available and not have to go with the standard blue, however, this is the least of my problems.
There are major issues that Microsoft and HTC need to address, such as the 'other' storage issue that eats up your entire phone space for no apparent reason. You can delete all your pictures, videos, internet history and your endless angry bird 'new star wars edition' apps, yet this will still make no real difference.
You cannot install apps onto an SD card and you need at least 10MB to carry out a software update which Microsoft and HTC are still working on to fix the problems. The thing that may tip some of you over the edge is the 5 megapixel camera and it's lack of instamatic haze, particularly for hipsters who want new age fun, with a vintage feel.
All in all, it is more of a 'could have been a great phone', there's a lot of things to love about this Windows phone, especially given its price range but disappointingly this beautiful phone is let down behind the brains of the operation.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by IAcCIdentA11Y Great!
This is a great phone.
The camera is brilliant. Compared to my old phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace), the camera tops my charts. Despite having the Mega Pixel settings up to max (5MP) you can zoom brilliantly, whereas the Galaxy Ace has to have it's settings reduced to be able to zoom.
In-call sound is great. It sounds like the person is right next to you! It's almost like it's HD sound even though it's not.
When it comes to media, the sound is brilliant (especially when you connect headphones and turn on the built-in Beats audio#. There have been complaints about not being able to mute the ringer without muting the media, but they're all wrong. All you have to do is tap the volume rocker to open the volume settings, then press the icon on the right that says either 'ring and vibrate' or 'vibrate', switching it to one mode to the other.
Ease of use-
The screen may not be the biggest, but thanks to the WP8 OS, you can change the size of the text on-screen, meaning even the shortest-sighted person can read it from a distance. It is also extremely responsive, giving crisp graphics even when swiping rapidly thanks to it's 'Super LCD' screen.
Compared to the battery life of my old Android-based Galaxy Ace, the battery life is great. I can charge it up in the afternoon and still have around 20% left when it comes to charging it again despite regular gaming use, where my Galaxy Ace died around lunchtime while using the same charging rota.
Look and feel-
Despite it's low price #for a smartphone#, this has a great feel to it. The back has a grippy rubber feel to it, meaning I, a clumsy, sweaty teenager, find it hard to drop it. The end cap at the bottom doesn't come off easily, meaning your SIM card and SD card are kept safe in the rain. Also, the phone overall has a rugged feel, making you feel safe in holding it in one hand, not worrying if you drop it #the screen won't break easily thanks to the Gorilla Glass#
Thanks to the positioning of the ports on the phone #the headphone jack on top, the micro-USB charging/data port on the bottom#, this is great if you like the idea of using your phone with a dock while still being able to use it.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Antonia a bit disappointed but equally happy.
Ever since I saw this phone I knew I wanted it, then I read all the reviews and how disappointing the hone actually is but then I got it for myself and I realised I'd made the right choice by ignoring the reviews and just buying it anyway.
I was impressed by nearly everything on the phone, it's easy to use and it looks great, I'm really into music but was really disappointed when I seen it didn't have volume adjustment, I was so shocked at the fact that you had to keep your music at one volume, but apart form that I was happy I bought the phone.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Michael123 A Disappointment
This is my third HTC phone. I had owned HTC Cruise and HTC HD2 before. I was extremely happy with both of them. My parents gave me this smartphone as a gift because my HD2 broke down.
Unfortunately, I must say I am disappointed with HTC 8S. It's completely different from what I had expected it to be. The phone itself isn't bad. For instance, its design is beautiful. The screen is quite good as well. However, Windows Phone is a letdown -- and that's putting it mildly. There aren't many useful applications for this operating system. And many of those that are available cannot be downloaded because the phone doesn't have enough free storage. The primary problem is that Windows Phone doesn't allow users to save application data to SD card. Therefore, I can't find any decent application for turn-by-turn GPS navigation, for example. The same problem is with several foreign language dictionaries which contain pronunciation files.
I believe Microsoft goes down the path I can no longer follow. That is why I've decided to sell this phone after only two since I received it. I suppose it's my last HTC phone, too. I'm not keen on buying a phone with Android, so I have only one option left.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't need much from their smartphone. That is, if you want a good-looking gadget for making calls, texting, listening to the music, and browsing the Internet -- then go for HTC 8S. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Brilliant Phone, but battery only lasts for a decent amount of time if you keep wifi, bluetooth, data roaming etc off. when you switch them on, the battery downgrades even on standby. Overall, very pleased!! :)

Rated 1 out of 5Â by fumingangrycustomer absolutley horrific!!!!
I am absolutley horrified by the experiences i have had with this phone.
firstly, there is the massive problem with the memory, as alot of other people have commented in their reviews, there is a major flaw with the issue of being unable to store anything other than music and photos on the sd card.
The fact that "other" takes up so much memory so you are instatly starting with about 2.6gb in the first place.
Also the fact that i get constant "update avaliable" notifications, WHICH I CANNOT DO BECAUSE I DONT HAVE ENOUGH MEMORY.
I had a 2gb memory card which i inserted, NOTHING, spent another £25 on a 8gb memory card, again, nothing.
The battery life is terrible,
The Beats Audio is pathetic, i can barely hear it compared to other phones ive had in the past
The alarm dosnt always go off, i have to set 3 or 4 just to be safe.
Ive had to delete many photos, apps, messages, e-mails and so on, to TRY and free up more memory, but again, to no avail.
I have had to delete and reload my facebook app countless times as that keeps crashing,
so, all in all I am extremley annoyed and angry that i have bought into a terrible phone on a two year contract and now have to go and spend another £100 or so to upgrade to a half decent phone.
Im trying to run my own business and have small budgets to be messing around with things like this, i need a phone that reliable.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO FREINDS/NO SOCIAL MEDIA LIFE/ HATE TAKING PHOTOS/ HATE LISTENING TO MUSIC/ DONT WANT TO DOWNLOAD APPS OR WAKE UP IN THE MORNING!!!

Rated 3 out of 5Â by freeman1902 Just bought one.
I bought this phone yesterday. Its satisfying overall, the only thing that upsets me is that i cant use it as a USB Modem as my old Symbian Nokia 5630. I appreciate the hotspot functionality but that only works with PC's that have WLAN, i wish in a future update, the posibility to use it as a simple modem will be implemented, its not a big effort. Also some battery life optimizations are very welcome, as the battery can last longer given its 1,7Ah capacity. Best of wishes, this is my first HTC product, hope i won't be let down.

Where is the turn-by-turn gps navigation? It's 2013 people! Plus, why do the labels for contact's phone numbers/emails not change when I select a new one? They revert to the label the contact has selected on Facebook etc.
Definitely expected a better user experience!

Rated 1 out of 5Â by DonTbhor Disappointing Looks
I believed that the people behind this Phone spent lot of time-energy-resources. But This is only a nice looking phone, nothing more.
1. 4gb Internal Memory? It can easily be consumed by few apps, worse you cannot use SD on other files than MUSIC, PHOTOS & VIDEOs (If you have lot of files downloaded from your email the internal mem will be full. How can you use cloud when your offline?!).
2. Fewer apps
3. Music Experience - There is no Equalizer - Flat on other Headset
3. Waste of money

Rated 4 out of 5Â by lionel86cool It's a nice phone
I love HTC and the Windows phone HTC is just amazing for using. The only thing I would propose HTC to do, it's to allow people who use this phone as me to have the option to install other software, especially google application. The software are very limited and I can't find my applications, so please increase it and you will see how excellent this smartphone will be.
I recommend this phone to people who love IT, not just because I am a fan of HTC, but because I can use it as a mini laptop.
AGAIN, PLEASE INCREASE THE PHONE FOR USING OTHER APPLICATION.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by tdyck12345 Memory is the killer
The phone is almost perfect for someone who is looking for an economy phone, except with one gotcha: the internal memory is too small and fills up with apps and app data quickly.
Why not make 32 gb internal memory standard? I bought a 32 GB SD card for $20. I'd pay $20 extra for this phone for more memory.
It really is a killer.
Otherwise, great phone.
Hopefully Microsoft fixes this issue by allowing a user to install apps on the SD card.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MarcinP Amazing experience !
A fourth smartphone in my life.
My first Windows Phone 8.
Most fun from all the phones I have used !
Until now I have been using a Symbian and - until recently - Android phones (two major brands, not HTC). My first impression was that Windows Phone 8 is very, very user friendly. All the features out-of-the-box are similar to these I had in the Android phone after "rooting" and modifying quite a lot of system parts.
And concentrating on the phone itself, I have to highlight these features that impressed me most :
- music with Beats Audio : all I can say is a big WOW. Not just me, also my wife and a few of my friends. But this is really difficult to describe, it must be just heard personally...
- a really good camera with all the necessary options at the fingertips, and with absolutely great ergonomy
- overall system concept and performance is great, I have not experienced any lags nor glitches
- Internet browsing is very fast
- build quality and design is another WOW. My hands were shaking when I was unpacking this beauty ;-)
To sum up, I have to say that moving from Android (which I had enough of) was a great decision. Now I can just enjoy all the features without worries. No need to look for "custom roms" because "this is working and that is not" ;-)
Congratulations, HTC. You have acquired a really satisfied customer !

Not enough memory and other folder ate 1GB of memory already
Can't install apps in SD card
Camera could be better at night
Beats audio doesn't work on web

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Kylline Overall, it is a steal for its price!
For a handset with this quality and new platform, I can consider this a steal for its price as compared to other W8 phones. Sure, HTC 8s has good and bad sides to it but for me, the good outweighs the bad. I am satisfied with this handset.
1. Crisp screen - It was not an AMOLED but it didn't fail me on the colors and outdoor quality. Pixels are noticeable if you're very keen but otherwise, it won't be a big deal.
2. Design is classy - Depending on the handset color that you get, the design is not cheap looking at all.
3. Windows 8 performs fast on it.
4. Good Bluetooth connectivity and antenna reception.
5. Keyboard is responsive and large enough.
6. Very affordable in comparison to other Windows handsets of almost the same specifications.
1. Phone volume is a bit softer than the other handsets I used.
2. Battery depletes faster than I expected. - Probably because of the screen and the haptic feedback on the windows key. A full charge can get me to 2 days if I will only use the phone on texts and a few calls (no media and browser).
3. Yellow tints on camera shots with flash.
4. Very few accessories available on the market.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Amit261988 Nice if you neglect the internal memory storage limit
The phone is amazing as far as the looks, the sound quality and the interface is concerned, But i believe the more important is the available memory for downloading the Apps,
This is the only draw back which brings it to a lower ranking,
We really need latest firmware launch, so that we can download the apps to the SD card otherwise there is no use of the expandable external memory.
You should really work on this, As if you would be successful, i will rank it as the best Windows phone in the market.
