Simply put I love this phone period. I use this phone as a second device, because my main phone is the new HTC One developers edition purchased directly from HTC Dev. I love Facebook don't get me wrong but with 2 easy steps for removing Facebook as the default launcher and boom, you have a stock Android experience. The phone is silky smooth from transitioning screen to screen. The display is very good for being a 720p display it has extremely vibrant colors. The price for the phone is a no brainer. Last I checked the phone was going for .99 cents with a contract through AT&T the only other phone available for that price was the old iPhone 4 (not the S). The phone has amazing specs and because of the way the UI is designed its so fast. The camera is ok it could have used a better camera but at this price you can't go wrong regardless. I would seriously recommend this phone to anyone wanting to go Android or simply looking for a new phone with good hardware that doesn't want to spend much money. It's a great starter phone or even for an experienced user looking for stock Android Jelly Bean. I have recommended this phone to everyone that doesn't have the budget for the HTC One. It's a solid device very smooth to the touch, doesn't leave smudges for the most part because of the surface they used on the back side. The glass is very glossy makes the phone look much more expensive than it is. The battery life is really good also. I use this device at work and stream music on it via wifi from 7am to 3pm using headphones and I don't have to charge it until I get home. And coming from HTC you know it has quality written all over it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! 10 out of 10

I love this phone and I think it is a great look..I love the fact that this phone transfers everything for me. I had to download my music again which I didn't like but It's cool..My only negative thought is that I can't put my SD card in the phone so I can retrieve my pictures..I'm not sure how to open the phone, or if u can even open the phone, but I can't figure out what to do to get my pics...

Rated 5 out of 5Â by JohnnyK ATT's best kept secret
I don't know why all the reviewers gave this little phone such bad reviews. It's great phone at a great price on ATT. The screen is bright and vibrant. The speaker is amply loud. The camera is fine for pointing and shooting. I've not encountered a phone that is easier to use. Jelly bean 4.1.2, the 4.3 inch footprint, and processor make this phone a diamond in the rough. People rely too much on reviews. Go to a store and handle this phone for an hour or so and you'll fall in love. AND IT'S $0.99!

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Caixa It was okay
I got the phone as an emergency replacement for a broken phone. I got it during their 1 cent promotion of the phone. And for the first month it was amazing. The screen is a nice size, with the entire phone still being able to fit in an average pocket. It accomplished tasks quickly, had sufficient storage, and didn't have a terrible battery life.
Almost three months having the phone, I am regretting the rushed decision. The screen now kills the battery to where it will not last 24 hours off the charger if used once. The speakers have deteriorated to where it might as well not be on there. The Charger no longer works with it, I have to place it carefully or it won't connect, and as of today will not connect. I have tried a few other chargers with it, and am pretty sure it is the phone not the charger, though I could be wrong. Perhaps the most annoying part is that when I try to use it as an actual phone, I get complaints from the other end that they can't hear me. This is while I am in an isolated room alone. I have had to use a headset for almost a month now.
I will take some responsibility as I have dropped it a couple of times, which may have damaged some of the insides. However all of these incidents were on relatively soft surfaces: grass fields, carpets, and maybe once on a hard wood floor. However, the phone is only one in name at this point.
The Facebook Home feature as many have said is capable of being turned off, as I did. I experimented with for a week and found the constant updates and blasts distracting.
As i stated, it is an okay emergency replacement, however I would look towards it for an end all be all.

I have had a few problems with this phone. My phone has been getting overheated for about a month now. I would charge my phone and it wouldn't charge. The charger was not working for me. I have dropped my phone. Overall, if these problems did not happen, this would be a great phone.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by texdv8 Don't get this phone!
Screen cracked five days after purchase. Unit was simply in my pocket by itself. Very fragile. My carrier refused any action due to damage. I have had many different phones by many different manufacturers. This is the worst unit I've ever owned by far. Very poor build quality.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by KayyKayy HORRIBLE PICTURE QUALITY!
I upgraded to from an iphone 4S to an HTC First and while the pone itself is cool and easy to get used to, the CAMERA IS TRASH!
The use of my phone camera is very very important to me so the horrible picture quality is a deal breaker. I barely take pictures now because its so bad. If you are big on pictures and video, then don't bother with this phone. Being that its the "Facebook" phone, you'd think that they would have put a little more effort into the camera....WRONG! I honestly regret buying this phone. I cannot wait to get my sweet sweet iphone back.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by echang426 Excellent Phone Bad Reputation
This HTC First is an amazing phone for such a low price on contract. It performs fabulously and has a very vivid and sharp display. While I wish there was an expandable memory slot, the relative simplicity of this unibody design is beautiful and feels solid. The nickname the "Facebook" phone is such a big misnomer, which HTC should quickly rethink. The mere fact Facebook Home is factory installed on the phone and slightly more integrated into the software does not make it a Facebook phone. When I mean slightly I mean slightly, the only difference I have seen is that your SMS also goes through FB messages, which is helpful if you need to save a message someone sent and your phone's SMS storage is mixed out. Like others have said, once you disable Facebook Home through 3 or 4 simple clicks, you won't see it again unless you press the widget.
This phone definitely deserves more praise than it is getting, especially for a $0.99 mid-range phone with decent specs and a solid construct. Even more beneficial, the First runs on pure stock Android Jellybean, and there is little if any bloatware from AT&T loaded on.
If HTC were to rebrand the First as just an android phone with Stock Android, I bet this phone would sell much faster.

i turned off the facebook home feature and it has a true android feel to it. It has a good camera and a lot of great features. So far I had it for a month and it was a pleasure and yes i download and use a lot of apps. One con is that there isn't an option to expand the memory but it comes with 16gb so its not too shabby and the nfc is harder to use than of samsungs.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Marlina66 I'm Happy with It
It's a good starter smartphone. I received it as an insurance replacement to my Samsung Blackjack II (that I loved). It took a little surfing around the phone to figure it out but overall it's a good phone.
I've added Evernote and Firefox apps, turned off Facebook Home and this is my first experience with Android and I'm happy. For now, this phone is good enough for my simple needs.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Geby Best HTC phone
Coming from a Desire HD, this phone could be just the same... but everything is 10 times faster. It is lighter, as the camera is so much better, and so on. But why are you guys forgetting it ? I'm still hoping for and Android 4.2 upgrade (which is a very important evolution) but anyway you should just launch it again without the logo HTC, because the HTC First is a great, very homogeneous phone. Also the design is the best HTC's to me.
(I got mine on ebay because it has never been sold in my country !)

Rated 1 out of 5Â by nahorn10 Exchanging this phone
The only good thing about it is the display and the size of the phone. Not compatible when I use the usb with my mac to download my pictures to my computer. I had facebook home disabled and it has come back to haunt me again and I can't get rid of it. When I choose android launcher to always be my default home it still wont change. The speakers sound horrible with music. I've heard how my voice sounds with through it talking on the phone and its horribly tinny and fades in and out. Facebook should have never been involved with this phone.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Orlavin Simply the best!!
First of all, other than the camera being a 5mp vs. a 8 mp, the specs are identical to the galaxy s III. Side by side side comparison proves it. They call the HTC First a mid range phone? This is a definite high end.
Battery lasts a super long time. Over 14 hours talk time, which actually is 12 hours tested and near 7 hours of continuous video playing. Very good!
Response is on point. Absolutely no lags!!
Display is clear and sharp.
Call quality is excellent.
Ringtone is high. Vibration is strong.
Facebook home needs work though- gives too many error messages when posting a status or commenting on a picture.
Keyboard is ok... Not the best. But you can download many keyboard style from the play store.
Camera is not that great. It's a 5 MP back camera but works and looks nice ... It's not as nice as the iPhone or Galaxy S III
Comes out the box with 16gb internal memory but no external memory available. No removable battery. So 16GB with 12GB of use is all you get.
This is a great phone and I definitely recommend it. You can use Facebook all you want or turn the Facebook home option off and use the phone as a normal android device. It has lots to offer. I love mine. I got the white one. Paid retail price but well worth it for me.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by sdklgfq2i3l5 Good, not great
I recently got the HTC First as my first smartphone. It is surely great for a dollar but isnt a top of the line phone. It still does what ever you need it to do with good speed. It's screen looks really nice and is comfortable in the hand, however, if you are not a facebook fanatic the Home settings are annoying unless you turn them off.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Notwhatitseems Not what it seems
I don't know who's responsible. This phone was misleading. First this is the Facebook phone. I have no interest in Facebook or social media.
Second, this site says the phone has a built in FM radio. IT DOES NOT have it. I wanted this phone specifically to avoid using my data plan with the radio. I have to download an app for streaming radio. Not what I wanted. Also, it did not come with headphones. It seems that smartphones no longer come with headphones.
Third, I have to register and download everything that I need. I couldn't figure out voicemail until I called customer service and received the automated line. With the previous blackberry phone I had, all I had to do is press a button for voicemail.
The music player doesn't work properly. I may have to download an app for that. Some of the apps aren't customizable. It's like you can only change the settings for the phone, not for the apps. I thought android was suppose to be easier than this.
Lastly, I was hoping for an instruction manual. Or at least something built in the phone. I could not find a help feature on the phone. It does have voice search, but that came up with very little, and it has to connect to the internet to work.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by rondodancer A great phone that shouldn't be judged on its Facebook Feature...
This phone has a soft nice grip yet with a good thinness and lightweight. The display is working at its finest and you get great memory space-16 GB for what it's cost for. Battery life on heavy use last around 14 hours to two days just standing by.*
Hardware is awesome, but the buzzkiller is Facebook home. Statuses from friends and picture slides set as your pre-unlock display can get really annoying after a period of time, also lacking privacy to others of your social life. This feature can be turned off fortunately and you won't have to switch between jellybean and facebook each time you use it.
It's a pretty decent phone. Don't listen what the market's been telling you!
*personal use does not account for all users

After turning off Facebook home and messenger I have come to like this phone. SOlid android based phone if you don't want to get into the jumbo screen. I received this phone as a replacement to an Atrix 2 and the transition couldn't have been easier. Quick phone and doesn't struggle with any tasks.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by reviewbyfact Great phone! decent battery life, light, compact, nice exterior design
i show my HTC first to all of my friends, i highly recommend it to anyone who is one the market to buy a smartphone, especially Android phone, maybe iphone users too but i know it's a religion :-).
First of all, the Facebook start page can be easily turned off if you don't want it. If you're a heavy FB user and want it back, just change the setting you wlll get it back. Once you disable the FB start page, the phone works just like any regular smartphone. This is my biggest concern before i buy this phone, i don't use Facebook, if there is no easy way for me to turn if on/off, i will return it to store in next day, now i have it for a month, very happy so far.
Battery life is a big improvement. Before this phone, i had an Android phone I bought 1.5 years ago, the battery can't sustain more than 6 hours, now with HTC first, battery typically last a day if I don't have a lots of calls (2 hours call most).
Another thing I like is the exterior design. It doens't have the very smooth exterior like Samsung, so even you don't have a rubber cover, you don't need worry about the phone will slip out of your hand and drop on the ground. Go to the store to see it.
I also like its size, it's about the same size as iphone 4s but thinner, for me, i don't want a note, i need a phone can put into my pocket, i don't need a note book, if i need a bigger screen, i have an ipad mini or you can use something similar. For a phone, HTC first has the prefect size.
About myself, i use it for both business (email, chatting, phone) and personal. Checking email constantly, average 1-2 hours call a day.
I just read another reviewer said it doesn't come with FM radio, true, i haven't find it like I had with previous phone, but i just download a free app from google store, now I can listen pretty much all radio stations, works great.
With that price, no brainier it's a much better deal than any other phone on the market.
I have used it for a month, will update if anything bad happen :-)

I just got this phone yesterday in the pale blue color (which is really nice) and I love it! I have had absolutely NO problems with it. I know a lot of people are weary of the whole facebook concept of the phone, but you can completely turn it off..thats what I did and now it works as a regular phone. After you turn off facebook home, you never have to deal with facebook again. The size is about the same as an iPhone/iPod and in my opinion, it kind of looks like one too.The phone does not lag at all and its not very business-y..its more of a casual phone. This is really an awesome phone..i love it.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Kstall I'm not a particularly tech savvy individual but I find this phone easy to use. The display is beautiful, the sound is good. I can clearly hear the person on the other end. The battery lasts all day for me. I don't talk or text heavily but I browse the web a lot. It only took a couple of hours to fully charge. I've only had this phone for about 4 days and I love it! I would recommend this phone to anyone like me who wants something nice but not overly fancy. The only downside is that I bought a Moshi Visor screen protector and a Ballistic Aspira Hybrid case. The visor will not work with the case. The case pushes the visor up so it bows in the middle. With these two it's one or the other, I like the case though. I recommend getting a real peel and stick screen protector.
