    Why does the phone heat up when I’m charging the battery or when I’m making long calls?
    When using your phone for prolonged periods of time, such as when you’re talking to the phone, charging the battery, browsing the web or using navigating software, the device may become warm. In most cases this is normal and therefore should not be interpreted as a problem with the phone.

    How do I enable automatic updating for my applications?
    To enable automatic updating for the applications you have downloaded from the Android Market, please press on All apps on the home screen > Market. On the Android Market screen, press Menu > Downloads. This screen will show a list of applications that are currently installed on the handset. Please choose the application you want to automatically update and tap it to open. On the application description screen, put a check on allow automatic updating.

    How can I share my Internet from my computer to my phone?
    Internet pass-through lets you share your computer's Internet connection to your handset. To share your computer's Internet with your handset, please download the latest HTC Sync available for your phone. You can find the latest HTC Sync on http://www.htc.com. Simply click on Support > Select your phone > Downloads and click the most recent update of HTC Sync. At the time of release, the version is 3.0.

    After you have installed HTC Sync successfully, please connect the handset to the computer via USB cable then drag the status bar down from the top of the screen. Choose Internet pass-through as the connection type. The handset will now be able to access the Internet through the computer's connection.

    NOTE 1: Your computer must be connected to an Internet source in order to share the connection with your phone. NOTE 2: If you have trouble using this feature, please see the below FAQ Why can’t I use the Internet pass-through feature on my phone? to see if that helps.

    How do I setup a VPN connection on my phone?
    To setup a VPN connection, please press on MENU from the home screen > Settings > Wireless & networks > VPN settings > Add VPN > select a type of VPN you want to create then input the VPN Settings. Press MENU > Save when you are finished.

    NOTE 1: An Internet connection (Wi-Fi, GPRS/3G, etc.) is required to access this service. Your operator may charge for using GPRS/3G.

    NOTE 2: Please ask your IT administrator for your VPN settings.

    How do I setup multiple numbers in a single contact?
    Please make sure that the contact is saved on either the phone memory or your Google account. To setup multiple numbers in a single contact, please press All apps on the home screen > People. Tap the connect that you wish to add details to and press MENU > Edit. You can add a phone number by pressing Add below phone.

    NOTE 1: All apps is the triangle icon in the lower left corner of the home screen that opens the phone's application menu.

    NOTE 2: You can also add other details like email, postal address and more by tapping the add option on the corresponding detail.

    How can I maximize my handset's battery life?
    Please follow these simple tips in order to maximize battery life.

    1. When not in use, always disable your phone’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPRS. 2. Set the backlight setting to its minimum brightness you can view it. You can also choose Auto brightness to let the phone decide. 3. Always charge the phone using the power adapter since charging through USB uses lower voltage and will take longer to charge. 4. Try uninstalling 3rd party software. Since it is not tested by HTC, there is a risk in impacting your phone’s performance, including battery life. 5. Please check if there are any applications running in the background. Please press MENU on the home screen > Settings > Applications > Running services. You will find all the running applications on this screen and you have an option to stop them by tapping on a running application. 6. You may also check the signal strength in your area. Whenever it gets unstable, the phone will keep searching for a stronger signal. This may also shorten battery life. 7. Try removing widgets that update automatically. You can try to set some of these to manual update to only grab information when activated.

    How do I use Fastboot?
    Fastboot is a function that enables the phone to quickly boot up after being powered down. This feature is on by default and can be toggled by tapping MENU from the Home screen > Settings > Applications > Fast boot.

    Fast boot is only available when the phone has been powered down using the menu after long pressing the Power button.

    How do I use the new Power options when I long press the power button?
    The power options menu has been streamlined to contain only the most essential options; Restart, Airplane mode, Power down.

    Restart: This option will turn off all applications and services to turn the phone off and on again. Airplane mode: This option turns off all wireless radios including phone, data, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi Power Off: If the fast boot option is enabled, (MENU from the Home screen > Settings > Applications > Fast boot. ) then this will place the phone into hibernation-like state that will be able to boot quickly if needed. If the fast boot option is disabled, this will shut down the phone entirely.

    How do I increase my accuracy on the keyboard?
    You can increase your accuracy on the keyboard by calibrating the keyboard to be more suitable to your tapping habits.

    Please press MENU on the home screen > Settings > Language & keyboard > Touch Input > Text input > Calibration tool. Tap the given phrase and after you have completed the calibration, the keyboard should be more attuned to your touch screen habits.

    How do I reset my phone back to the factory default settings?
    Warning: Resetting your phone will erase your phone completely. Remember to back up your phone information and settings.

    Please press MENU on the Home screen, then tap Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone.

    You can also perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone. 1. With the phone turned off, long press the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. 2. Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button. 3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER. 4. When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP.

    NOTE: Resetting your handset to factory or manufacturer's default setting will delete all the data stored on your phone memory, please back up your files first. To backup all of your personal information on your phone, please refer to the FAQ "How do I backup my phone"

    Can I use the flash when I shoot videos in dim lighting conditions?
    Yes. You can use the flash of the camera when you shoot videos under dim lighting conditions. Please do the following to enable the flash when shooting videos: From the home screen, press All apps > Camcorder. On the camcorder screen, tap the Flash icon and tap on.

    How can I edit Microsoft office files such as word, excel or PowerPoint?
    You can view and edit Microsoft office word and excel files and view PowerPoint files using the Quickoffice application on the handset.

    Please transfer files onto the handset's microSD card using HTC Sync or disk drive mode with a PC. To view Microsoft office files, please press All apps on the home screen > Quickoffice. The Quickoffice application will automatically search the microSD card for Microsoft office files and display the results. Tap on a filename on the results screen to open the file and view it.

    To edit a word file, please press MENU > Edit to edit the contents on word file when you are viewing it. To edit an excel file, please press MENU > Edit to edit the contents on word and excel files when you are viewing it. To edit a PowerPoint file, please hold and press the texts you want to edit, then tap Edit Text to edit the PowerPoint file when you are viewing it.

    You can also create a new word or excel file by pressing MENU on the results screen > New > choose from word or excel.

    What is Wi-Fi tethering?
    Wi-Fi tethering is sharing your Internet with other Wi-Fi capable devices. The handset will act as a wireless router that will broadcast a wireless network which can be picked up by Wi-Fi enabled devices. The handset will use it's data connection (3G/GPRS) for this function. Please be advised that your mobile operator may charge extra for data services.

    To share your Internet to a Wi-Fi capable device please make sure that your data connection is turned on. From the home screen, press MENU > Settings > Wireless & networks. Please put a check on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. You can change the network name and secure the connection by tapping Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings. After configuring the settings, the handset will start broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name and you can connect up to 8 devices. To stop sharing the Internet connection, please uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

    If you have trouble finding the hotspot with your other device, you can try setting a specific channel to broadcast on. From the Home screen press MENU > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings. Ensure that the hotspot is turned off, then press MENU > Advanced > Wi-Fi Channel > then select any channel.

    NOTE 1: A mobile Internet connection (GPRS/3G) is required to access this service. Your operator may charge for using GPRS/3G. NOTE 2: This function requires GPRS/3G in order to work properly, and usage may shorten the handset's battery life.

    Yes. The pre-installed browser in your handset supports Adobe Flash. The version at the time of launch was 10.1; for the current version, please check the android market.

    How can I transfer my data from my old phone to my handset?
    There are a few ways to import your data from your old phone to your new phone.

    You can import your SMS, calendar or contact from old phone to the new HTC phone using a new feature called Transfer Data. Press All apps on the home screen > Transfer Data > Next, select your old phone and tap Next to pair with your old phone. Enter the passkey on your old phone, and then select the Contacts check box (and other types of data you want to import), and then tap Next. The Desire Z phone will start importing data from the old phone, press Done when finished.

    You can also try to see if your old phone has an export contacts and SMS messages option to your SIM card. If this is available you are able to transfer a limited number of contacts and messages in this manner.

    If your old phone was able to sync with Outlook, you can use HTC Sync to import contacts and calendar events from Outlook into your phone. (Please see What version of HTC Sync do I use? for more information).

    How can I share my Internet with a computer?
    You can share your mobile Internet to a computer via USB cable or Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot To use a USB cable to share your Internet, please make sure that you have an active mobile data connection on the handset in order to use these function.

    To share your Internet to a computer, please connect the handset to a computer using the supplied USB cable and make sure that your data connection is turned on. From the home screen, press MENU > Settings > Wireless & networks. Please put a check on USB tethering. The handset will start sharing the Internet connection to the computer. To stop sharing the Internet connection, please uncheck USB tethering or simply disconnect the handset from the computer.

    In order to share your Internet to a Wi-Fi capable device please make sure that your data connection is turned on. From the home screen, press MENU > Settings > Wireless & networks. Please put a check on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. You can change the network name and secure the connection by tapping Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings.     What is Quick Lookup?
    Quick Lookup reference tool which integrates 5 online resources; Wikipedia, YouTube, Google Search, Google Dictionary and Google Translate. You can easily search for items, meanings, translations and other relevant information about anything that you look up.

    To use it, press All apps > Quick lookup. Enter text on the search field and tap on search. You can easily switch resources by sliding your finger on the resources' icons at the bottom of the screen. To rearrange your resources, press and hold on an icon until it comes off and move the icons to your desired order or drag the icon to the middle of the screen to remove that resource.

    Can I change my primary Google account on my handset?
    Once you have configured your first Google account on the handset, it is treated as the primary one. The primary Google account is utilized by all applications on the handset that are linked to Google like Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps, etc. The only way to remove or change the primary Google account on the handset is by performing a hard reset.

    NOTE 1: Performing a hard reset will wipe out all user data on the phone memory, please backup your data before proceeding.

    How do I find the IMEI of my phone?
    There are three ways you can find the IMEI on your handset.

    1. Please press on Phone on the home screen and dial *#06#; this will automatically display the handset's IMEI. 2. You can get the IMEI and serial number of your handset by pressing MENU from the home screen > Settings > About phone > Phone Identity. 3. Another way is by taking the back cover and battery out, the IMEI is printed on the sicker at the back of the handset.

    How do I use the Java application on the handset?
    The Java application on the handset allows you to install java games like .jad files and run them on the handset.

    To install a java game, please put the .jad file on the root folder of your microSD card. From the home screen, please press All apps > Java. On the Java application screen, press MENU > SD card to search for the .jad files that you have copied onto the microSD card. It will show the results and please tap on the file that you want to install. Tap on the location you wish to install it to. After the installation completes, you will be able to see the game on the folder that you installed it to using the Java application. Tap the game to start playing.

    How can I edit my signature on my email account?
    To change your signature on the email application, please press All apps on the home screen > Mail > MENU > More > Settings > General settings > Signature to edit your own signature. To change your signature in your Gmail account please press All apps on the home screen > Gmail > MENU > More > Settings > Signature to edit your own signature.

    How do I set a ring tone for incoming calls?
    There are 2 ways to setup a ring tone for incoming calls.

    1. Please press MENU on the home screen > Settings > Sound > Phone Ringtone. Tap the ring tone you want to use on the list, and then tap OK. 2. You can also use MP3 as a ring tone.

    There are two ways to import MP3s to your phone.

    Option 1: please use the micro USB cable to connect the phone to a USB port on your computer. Choose Disk drive as the connection type. This will allow you to access the microSD card on your phone from the computer and be able to copy music onto the microSD card. Please go to My computer and open the new removable disk; copy the MP3 you want to set as a ring tone to the music folder; if there is no music folder, create a new folder on the root folder of the microSD card and name it music.

    Option 2: You may use HTC Sync to sync MP3s to your phone. Please refer to HTC Sync How to for more information.

    After you have finished copying, turn off USB storage by pressing MENU on the home screen > Notifications > Disk drive > Charge only.

    Please press All apps > Music > tap the music you want to set as ring tone (the music will start playing) > press MENU > Set as ringtone. You can set the MP3 as a Phone ringtone, Contact ringtone or you can select Trim the ringtone.

    Can I quickly look something up online on my handset?
    You can search items on your handset like people, messages, mail, applications, settings, etc. using the Search anywhere application on the handset. Please press All apps > Search anywhere. Type the name of a setting, contact, application, message, email and the handset will search virtually anything that matches your search. You can also limit your search to a particular item on the handset by pressing on the icon on the left side of the search bar.
