Data connection

Data connection

When you turn on your phone for the first time, it will be automatically set up to use your mobile operator's data connection (if the SIM card is inserted).

Turning the data connection on or off

Turning your data connection off can help save battery life and save money on data charges. However, if you don’t have data connection turned on and you’re also not connected to a Wi-Fi network, you won’t receive automatic updates to your email, social network accounts, and other synchronized information.
  1. On the Start screen, tap .
  2. Tap Settings > mobile network.
  3. Tap the Data connection On/Off switch.

Using Connection Setup

The Connection Setup app makes it quick and easy to reconfigure your data connection settings.

When you change to another SIM card and restart your phone, Connection Setup opens and sets up your phone's data connection automatically based on your new SIM card.

If your mobile operator uses different profiles of connection settings for their data services (for example, different settings for Internet and WAP), you can also use this app to easily switch between their profiles.

Important: This app is preinstalled in most phones. If you don't see it on your phone, open the HTC Hub and download this free app.

Switching to another data connection profile

Manually choose a data connection profile in Connection Setup, if the app did not auto configure your phone's data connection, or if you need to switch to another profile of your mobile operator so you can use a certain data service.
  1. On the Start screen, tap .
  2. Tap Connection Setup.
  3. You can:
Switch to another data connection profile of your mobile operator
    1. Tap the Carrier field.
    2. Select the profile you want to use.
Change to another country and mobile operator
    1. Tap > manual select.
    2. Select the country and mobile operator to use.
  4. Tap to apply the changes.

Adding a new access point

An access point name (APN) is the address your phone uses to connect to the data network. By default, APNs are set automatically when your phone is first set up. If your cellular data connection isn't working, try entering a new APN based on your location and mobile operator.
Important: Before adding, have the access point name and settings (including username and password if required) from your mobile operator ready.
  1. On the Start screen, tap .
  2. Tap Settings > mobile network.
  3. Tap add apn.
  4. Enter the APN and other required settings.
  5. Tap to save.

Enabling data roaming

Connect to your mobile operator’s partner networks and access data services when you’re out of your mobile operator’s coverage area.

Warning: Using data services while roaming will be costly. Check with your mobile operator for data roaming rates before you use data roaming.
  1. On the Start screen, tap .
  2. Tap Settings > mobile network.
  3. Tap the Data roaming options box, and then tap roam.
