Hello,\nwe are HTC

In order for you to discover who we are and what we are about, we have put together some content we think will help you in getting to know us a little bit better.
We are HTC

HTC Company Origins and Point of View

Founded in 1997, HTC built its reputation as the behind-the-scenes designer and manufacturer of many of the most popular OEM-branded mobile devices on the market.

Since 2006, we have regularly introduced many critically acclaimed mobile devices under our own brand, and our portfolio includes smartphones and tablets powered by the Android or Windows Phone operating systems.

We are dedicated to enabling a customized user experience based on the belief that each mobile device needs to fit its owner, and not the other way around. What we make is not merely the product of focus group tests, but of observing and honoring how individuals choose to interact with technology.

Our customers guide everything we do at HTC, and it’s this commitment that defines the company.

Success Starts Where It Ends: With the Customer

Strong recommendations from retailers, press reviews, consumer opinions, and friends and family, contribute to a high rate of product referrals, brand recognition and ongoing momentum. Combined, these recommendation channels nourish the connection between HTC and its discerning community as market share increases. And because we invest wholeheartedly in refining the personalized communications experience, we champion the customer as the hero through every stage of innovation.

Dedication to Experiential, Interactive Design

A focus on product design with performance, endurance, craftsmanship, and intuitive tools and interfaces ensures an elegant experience in a beautiful, minimalist package. HTC contributes a variety of innovations that include an amazing camera — cameras that rival leading point-and-shoot models and HD video that turns mobile screens into intimate, state-of-the-art theaters. And we make authentic sound a priority — we integrate Beats technology because it’s not just the music you play that matters, but also the quality of the sound. We recognize that, for our customers, a mobile device isn’t just a smartphone but an A/V entertainment system, communications control center and important instrument of individual expression, all in one.

Innovation Through Collaboration

Our longstanding working relationships with fellow technology leaders such as Google, Microsoft and Qualcomm are more than strategic partnerships: They serve as active labs of research and development and product evolution. At HTC, collaboration is a means to a very important end: creating a holistic experience for the customer. Our partnerships ensure that hardware, software, and content management and delivery systems are united in seamless and intuitive ways that give consumers control.

Empowering the Most Personal Experience

Discovering the best ways to integrate state-of-the-art technologies with effortless user experiences has always been, and will always be, our passion. New products simply enable and enhance these experiences. And when our customers share their personal experiences with our products, they speak with passion and conviction. That’s why we encourage, embrace and celebrate users sharing their perspectives. The strength of the HTC community lies in its authenticity; it’s the most accurate and honest voice of real-world understanding available. We insist on seeing through the eyes of this community, because doing so teaches, challenges and prods us to get better at what we do — empowering our customers through personal experience.

HTC creates HTCpro to serve enterprise customers
Mobile security whitepaper to help business customers increase security when integrating employee devices in the enterprise

New Orleans, international CTIA wireless 2012, May 8, 2012 – Today HTC Corporation, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, announced the latest enterprise offerings from HTCpro™, an integrated program that provides mobile solutions for companies and their employees, and ensures that HTC’s entire portfolio is business-ready. Created to address the needs of business customers around the world, HTCpro is building enterprise-level security enhancements, management and productivity features through HTC SenseTM, while helping IT managers integrate devices into the workplace.

HTC has also released “Basic Principles for Increasing Security in a Mobile Computing Program,” a whitepaper designed to guide CIOs and IT departments in creating a mobile computing network with increased security, while accommodating the growing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend, in which employees use one mobile device for both their personal and professional needs. The paper explores the pitfalls of mobile computing and establishes basic principles for building a program to help increase employee flexibility, business productivity and overall peace of mind.

“The blurred line between the ‘consumer’ device and the traditional ‘business’ device has made the enterprise more complex to manage,” said David Jaeger, executive director of global enterprise and services for HTC and head of HTCpro. “With today’s growing mobile workforce, we’ve found that businesses of all sizes are offering employees a choice of devices or a willingness to support employees’ personal devices. HTCpro helps to ensure that when they choose an HTC device, employees and employers can feel confident in its productivity and compliance features right out of the box.”

Productivity and Security Features … in All HTC Sense Enabled Devices

As carriers are increasingly catering to business segments, they have presented a clear need to be able to offer their business customers devices that are enterprise-ready. Through the HTCpro program, HTC is enabling its entire portfolio of HTC Sense devices to be used seamlessly for everything from personal productivity to enterprise-level business needs via the new, simple and intuitive HTC Sense 4 user experience.

The latest HTC devices include built-in document management applications that allow for viewing and editing of popular document formats, as well as enhancements to email and calendar functions, Wi-Fi printing and Internet sharing. Core security enhancements have also been added across the entire portfolio. HTCpro features deliver encryption of removable and on-board data using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), as well as reliable network connectivity via Cisco AnyConnect virtual private network (VPN) functionality that protects data in transit. End users can manage protection settings directly on the device, and IT managers can use a variety of popular, centralized device management platforms.

Enhanced support of management policies on enterprise messaging platforms makes it possible to implement password policies or lock-out device functions — such as text messaging and Bluetooth usage — that don’t comply with company policies. Enterprises that must protect sensitive data can also use native policies to enforce encryption of mobile device storage and remotely wipe data in the event of loss.

A key differentiator of these HTCpro offerings is the standardized nature of HTC devices. While other mobile device manufacturers provide enterprise features and functionality on a device-by-device basis, HTCpro features deliver business-ready capabilities on HTC Sense enabled devices — delivering consistent enterprise enablement for a broad range of business usage.

    HTCpro Network of Solution Providers

HTCpro is also working with a number of key solution providers to integrate and extend the functionality of HTC devices in the workplace. HTCpro is collaborating with IBM to deliver seamless integration on HTC devices with the IBM portfolio of social collaboration applications. This teaming aims to deliver reliable and cost-effective enterprise solutions to mobile users across the globe.

And for businesses demanding advanced enterprise management solutions, HTCpro has worked extensively with leading mobile device management (MDM) providers — including Airwatch, Fiberlink, MobileIron, SOTI, Zenprise®, Inc. and 3LM — to enhance and deliver leading-class business mobility solutions and help businesses tackle their compliance needs.

“At HTC, we strive to fuse ideas, creativity and innovation with like-minded companies that can help deliver the most personal experience along with the seamless productivity that our worldwide customers want,” said Will Ro, director of Global Enterprise Operations and Strategy for HTC. “HTCpro’s work with leading providers such as Cisco, IBM and Polycom offer business users the benefit of recognized industry expertise in the delivery of mobility features that are critical to their business needs.”

HTC devices will be enabled for Polycom® RealPresence® Mobile, a videoconferencing app that combines one-touch ease of use with enterprise-grade security enhancements, reliability and scale. A 2012 Edison Award winner, RealPresence Mobile extends the reach of video collaboration beyond the conference room. This allows users on HTC devices to connect with other standards-based video systems, seamlessly and with enterprise-grade quality, across theater-size displays, conference rooms, group/desktop systems, laptops, tablets and other smartphones.

HTCpro’s collaborative work with this diverse network of enterprise-focused providers gives businesses options to leverage existing investments in management, security and messaging infrastructure — or cost-effectively customize a solution that best fits their needs.

    HTC reports 2012 first-quarter results

Taoyuan, Taiwan, April 24, 2012 – HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2498), a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today announced consolidated results for the first quarter of 2012.

    1Q 2012 results

HTC’s first quarter revenue was NT$67.79bn, with gross margin of 25.03% and operating margin of 7.53%. Net profit and EPS were NT$4.47bn and NT$5.35, respectively. The decline in revenue was primarily a result of the product transition cycle, with new product line sales beginning to ramp at the end of the first quarter. Gross margin was impacted by the margins of older products, and lowered scale contributed to a lower operating margin during the quarter.

“The last two quarters were a ‘rebuilding’ period for HTC,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “We focused on creating and launching our next family of hero products, the HTC One, while continuing to grow our brand awareness and preference globally. The market response to the One has been very positive and—combined with regionally focused devices—we believe it will take HTC into its next phase of growth.”

The HTC One—unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February—and available in different regions throughout the next few months, has enjoyed strong customer endorsement with more than 140 inaugural global operators and distributor partnerships. In addition to the global launch of the One, HTC demonstrated its commitment to the China market with the launch of the HTC Desire V series, bringing a premium experience to the vastly growing mass smartphone market. It has also launched the EVO 4G LTE with Sprint ensuring broad coverage for HTC in the US smartphone market. In addition, HTC and KDDI launched the HTC J smartphone, bringing the Japanese-styled look and feel with customized local features.

HTC’s new global marketing campaigns kicked off in April, supporting its hero device launches and taking a more holistic and efficient approach to global marketing to expand its brand equity and preference. Through this ongoing global campaign, the company will deliver a unified global message across its key channels and from this HTC expects to see an increase in both brand value and sales momentum.

    2Q 2012 Outlook

The Company’s outlook for the second quarter of 2012 is as follows:

    • • 2Q revenue expected to be around NT$105bn
    • • Gross profit margin expected to be around 27%
    • • Operating margin expected to be around 11%

    HTC One Series Unveiled

HTC One™ Highlighted by an Amazing Camera and Authentic Sound Experience
Unprecedented momentum for HTC One series – available beginning in April with broad global availability through more than 140 mobile operators and distributors.

BARCELONA, SPAIN – Mobile World Congress – February 26, 2012 – HTC, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled its new HTC One series of smartphones that represent its most premium mobile experience with a new level of iconic design and amazing camera and authentic sound experience.

“The best moments in life are captured with a photo or remembered by a song, so it was key for the HTC One series to improve these emotional experiences with an amazing camera and authentic sound experience,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “We are very focused on creating a camera and audio experience customers will love and use often and we believe the HTC One series delivers this in a way never seen on a phone before.”

With HTC’s most premium experience, the HTC One series integrates Android 4.0 (ICS) with HTC Sense™ 4, the new version of HTC’s branded user experience that is introducing HTC ImageSense™, a new suite of camera and imaging features that set HTC One apart from other phones. HTC Sense 4 also includes broad enhancements to audio quality and simplifies how people listen to music on their phone.

    Amazing Camera
With ImageSense HTC One rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of the camera, including the lens, the sensor, the software, and even integrating a new custom HTC ImageChip. These enhancements combine to deliver our fastest image capture, best image quality under adverse conditions and easiest interface that enables quick access to capturing stills and videos with side-by-side photo and video capture buttons.

Superfast Capture - HTC One dramatically reduces the time it takes to capture those key moments. In just 0.7 seconds you’re able to take a shot, and with a new superfast 0.2-seconds autofocus, continue to take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button.

Good photos in adverse conditions - HTC One delivers dramatic enhancements in image capture quality even in adverse conditions such as low light, no light or with bright backlighting. The f/2.0 lens on the HTC One X and HTC One S offers best-in-class performance, capturing 40 percent more light than the f/2.4 lenses available on other high-end phones. HTC One also includes HDR, a market-leading technology, for taking great photos even when there are varying levels of brightness.

Video Pic (Concurrent Video/Still Capture) – With Video Pic you capture a photo and shoot video at the same time.  Now, while you’re shooting HD video, all you have to do is tap the shutter button and it snaps a high-resolution still photo while the video continues to shoot.  You are also able to capture a photo frame from a previously recorded video.

Dropbox integrated with HTC Sense - HTC One gives you an easy way to save and share your photos and videos. HTC has integrated Dropbox into HTC Sense 4 enabling HTC One customers to get 25 gigabytes of free Dropbox space for two years. That’s enough to keep more than 10,000 high-quality photos. Dropbox is also integrated throughout HTC Sense 4, so it’s easy to edit, save and share your documents and other kinds of files.

Sharing your photos and more - HTC One gives you a new way to share your photos and videos. When you plug in HTC’s wireless Media Link HD* accessory into your TV’s HDMI port, you can easily share your photos, videos, or anything else on your phone with your friends, family or colleagues regardless of the television’s brand as long as it has HDMI.

    Authentic Sound
With HTC One, Beats By Dr. Dre Audio™ integration is enabled for the first time across the entire experience for richer, more authentic sound whether you’re listening to your favorite music, watching a YouTube™ video or playing a game. HTC One also makes it easy to get and listen to your music on your phone with the built-in HTC Sync Manager software that automatically installs to your computer when connected. Once connected, it is easy to transfer songs, artists and playlists from your music library.

Of course, people today no longer just listen to the songs stored on their phones; they use streaming services and tune into Internet radio. So HTC One lets you customize the new Music Hub with your favorite services and music applications, like the latest Soundhound technology, giving you one place to go for all of your music.

HTC One lets you take all of your music anywhere, including the car. With HTC One, you get an easy way to bring your mobile music to your car’s sound system with the HTC Car Stereo Clip*. It also lets you connect to your music through more than 50 thousand online radio stations worldwide or play music from any service or app on your phone through your car speakers. All this makes HTC One the one place to enjoy all your music, wherever you are, with the power of Beats By Dr. Dre Audio and HTC Car.

    HTC One X
The HTC One X features a beautifully crafted polycarbonate unibody that has the ruggedness of metal but is super lightweight. With seamless construction, the unibody combines a unique high gloss 'piano' finish and a matte back. HTC One is blazing fast with the new NVIDIA® Tegra 3 Mobile Processor for clear graphics, faster applications and longer battery life. It includes a 1.5GHz Super 4-PLUS-1™ quad-core with an integrated fifth Battery Saver Core and a high-performance 12-Core NVIDIA® GPU. The HTC One also has an amazing 4.7-inch, 720p HD screen crafted from contoured Corning™ Gorilla Glass. HTC One X will also be available in select 4G LTE markets with a LTE-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon S4™ processor with up to 1.5GHz dual-core CPU’s.

    HTC One S
The HTC One S is for people who want a high-end smartphone in a more compact size. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with up to 1.5GHz dual-core CPU’s. It also includes a 4.3-inch screen crafted from contoured Corning™ Gorilla Glass. HTC One S brings HTC’s innovative metal unibody styling to a new thin 7.9-mm design, making it HTC’s thinnest phone yet. The HTC One S sports two new finishes that break new ground in mobile phone innovation. The first is an ultra-matte black Ceramic Metal surface that is the result of a microarc oxidation (MAO) process originally developed for use in satellites. It transforms the surface of the aluminum unibody into a ceramic, super-dense crystalline structure that is four times harder than anodized aluminum, enabling the HTC One S to look great over time. The second finish for the One S takes anodizing to a new level with a new patented process that creates a light-to-dark gradient fade that looks gorgeous and sophisticated.

    HTC One V
Utilizing the classic, award-winning design of the HTC Legend, the HTC One V brings top-end design to a smartphone with broad appeal and a premium experience that delivers an amazing camera and authentic sound. It features a simple, iconic aluminum unibody design that exudes craftsmanship and quality.

    Global Availability

    4Q Highlights
    • After-tax profit was NT$10.94bn, EPS was NT$13.06
    • Total revenues were NT$101.42bn
    • Gross profit margin and operating margin were 27.12% and 12.71%, respectively

    2011 Highlights

    • Total revenue was NT$465.79bn, up 67.09% year-on-year
    • Gross profit margin and operating margin was 28.30% and 14.77%, respectively
    • ROE was 70.37% compared to 56.33% in 2010

“In 2011 we saw growth in the global strength of our brand, as well as earnings and revenue growth,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “While short term performance may not meet the results as expected, we have gained further experience and advancement in the areas of brand management and product innovation. These fundamental strengths and the groundwork we have laid will take us into 2012 with a renewed focus and determination.”

    4Q 2011 Results
HTC’s fourth quarter revenue came in-line at NT$101.42bn, resulting in after-tax earnings of NT$10.94bn and EPS of NT$13.06. Gross profit and operating margins came in at 27.12% and 12.71%, respectively. The decline in gross profit margin was mainly a result of product transition.

    2011 Results
2011 annual revenue was NT$465.79bn, a 67.09% increase over 2010 annual revenues (NT$278.76bn), resulting in after-tax earnings of NT$61.98bn. Overall gross profits and operating margins were 28.30% and 14.77%, respectively.
In 2011, in addition to solid growth in revenues and profits, HTC’s brand gained significant momentum in the global landscape, being named one of Interbrand’s 100 Best Global Brands.

    2012 Outlook
In 2012, HTC will focus on: growing the Company’s brand value; continuing to create competitive advantages through innovation; enhancing the efficiency of marketing campaigns; and further driving down operating costs.

To expand its brand preference and value, HTC will work at a global level to build emotional connections with consumers, putting more of its marketing resources behind fewer products and driving value in those product brands. By building a globalized marketing campaign, HTC aims to optimize its go-to-market strategy with operators, retail distributors, and end-users, and improve the efficiency of its marketing spend. In emerging markets, such as China, HTC will continue to extend its reach to customers by expanding distribution channels.

Despite temporary weakness resulting from product cycle transition, HTC believes it has the ability to create a new wave of momentum through the upcoming product cycle. It will also continue its attention on mass market consumers by driving product differentiation through design and innovation.

    1Q Outlook
The Company’s outlook for the first quarter of 2012 is as follows:

    • 1Q revenue expected to be around NT$65-70bn
    • Gross margin expected to be around 25%
    • Operating margin expected to be around 7.5%

These margins are a temporary phenomenon and will normalized when product cycle transition is over.
