HTC One (M8) Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 234 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Loved the phone till screen went out I got an HTC One about two months ago and loved the phone. A few days ago screen went out and really left me in a pinch as I use the phone for work. Screen is purple with tiny yellow icons are displayed and the phone is unusable. I still receive calls but can't respond as the icons are lurking somewhere behind this screen. Waiting on a replacement phone - seems they are on back-order and it will take 7 to 10 days to get a new one. In the meantime, I'm having difficulty meeting job demands as my phone is an integral part of what I do. July 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great phone with just a few minor things To start this review off, I am not a die hard HTC loving fanboy. In fact, until this phone I had only owned Apple smart phones. So this review should be unbiased. Also, this review won't be an iOS vs Android review. It will suffice to say I currently like Android better. This review will be focused on the hardware and software specific to this phone. Advantages: With that being said, I really like this phone. This phone looks great. It has good colors to choose from and a great metal design. It feels very solid. As a photographer, I was pleasantly surprised by the good low light performance due to the large sensor, full manual controls, and the ability to get shallow depth of field. Those are all things that I didn't have on an iPhone. The large pixels are usually a plus because of the good low light performance, which means less noise (grain), but when noise does show up in extremely low light situations, it's not pretty. In fact, it's even more noticeable than regular sized pixel noise is. I also like the Zoe feature, which let's you take phones and video at once. The camera and video quality and features are the some of the best that you'll find in a smartphone, but if you're a professional, it still won't be replacing your DSLR. Blinkfeed, a built in HTC software that shoves news and social media in one place, is great. It's one of the best features of the phone. The built in IR blaster that allows this phone to be a TV remote is awesome too. Disadvantages: This all being said, I have some complaints. I would like to be able to control the F-stops in manual mode. That is the only thing missing in manual mode. Also, the speaker holes are just the right size for any crumb or sand to get luck in. Almost every hole has sand, cereal crumbs, or something small stuck in them by now. This doesn't affect the sound of the speakers, but it doesn't look good either. Other: This phone won't let you swap out batteries like some other Android phones do. However, this phone has a giant battery to make up for it. I didn't count this as a disadvantage because of this. Also compared to the Samsung S5 or iPhone 5S, I like the HTC One M8 best. I haven't been able to play around with my friends LG G3 enough to comment on that though. July 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by It's pretty much perfect. The battery life is killer. The screen resolution is sharp and the colors are beautiful. It's very easy to use in contrast to the Galaxy S I just came from, there's much less bloatware and pre-installed, unusable stuff. This phone is straight to the point and beautiful. It doesn't slow down either. Great phone. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Phone I find the M8 very easy to personalize and move around in so very easy operation. It is quick and responsive and the speakers are the best I've heard on any smartphone. Very easy to hold and stylish. I'm new to HTC with a family member who has always owned nothing but a HTC and now I know why. July 13, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Bad video quality through text i am very disappointed with the HTC (M8), I can not send a video through text with out it being horrible quality and extremely short, My husband and I realized this was the same case for the HTC ONE (M7) which my husband has. At first i thought i was my service provider, but then i checked with my husband which has a different service provider, and it was the same thing. I am disappointed that with my new version of the phone it has not been fixed. July 12, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by HTC one max Terrible. It did not last 15 days. We spent $200 and it will not hold a charge. Extremely disappointed with HTC customer service. i WOULD expect a new phone to last longer than 15 days July 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by HTCOne M8, A device ahead of it's time!! I've been a fan of HTC for quite some time. Dating back to my first smart phone which was on Windows Mobile, I had an HTC device. Switched over to Android and the HTC Evo 4G was my first Android device. Today I'm here to say how much I LOVE my HTCOne M8. I really like what HTC did w/the M8 coming from the M7. Just when you thought they couldn't make the phone better, they did. The build quality which is now 90% metal exudes sexiness and class and people always ask me what phone is that? I call it the Ferrari of Smart Phones because it's fast, sexy and high class just like a Ferrari. The screen increase to 5in was very welcoming and having BoomSound outputting a 25% louder sound is awesome. It makes my music/videos sound that much more enriching to my ears. Front facing speakers are genius and make all the sense in the world. Sense 6 is a pleasure to use and IMO, the BEST UI on a Smart Phone today. It's not cartoonish or boring but innovative and useful. I always get excited to see what they'll do or add to it next. A UI is very important to a phone because you're always interacting w/it, so if it's not enjoyable then using the phone becomes a lot less fun. The Duo camera is a lot of fun and I like how they've taken the time to spice of the camera UI and add lots of cool features. The depth of view is VERY COOL!! It gives you a whole new fun and exciting way to use your camera. Overall I think HTC has hit a Home run w/this phone. They've added just the right amount of things to it from the M7 to make it the BEAST that it is today. Bigger battery...Check. Extreme power saving mode which has come in handy plenty of times...Check. Awesome Sound...Check. Beautiful design and craftsmanship...Check. I'm a proud owner of this phone and I think anyone in the market for a Smart Phone should def. get this phone cause it's got everything and the kitchen sink in it!! Another thing to me which is important is, HTC's dedication to pushing out updates which always come when promised. I can't wait for what's next and whatever it is, I'll be right there ready to get it because I'm sure it'll be Amazing!! July 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by First Time Switching From iPhone to Android - I've Fallen in Love! I was an iPhone user for 3 years before upgrading to the HTC One M8 - and I'm so glad I made the switch. The build quality is amazing and Boomsound really has the greatest quality sound I've ever heard on a smartphone. Everyone seems to be complaining about the camera, but it's honestly great for taking normal everyday photos. I find the quality pretty good even if you zoom in - if you really want a high quality camera, go buy a Nikon! I never used to watch movies or TV on my iPhone, but ever since I got the M8 I've been using it for that almost daily. If you buy it with Bell you get the Live TV app for free, so that's a great bonus. I also love that on Androids there is so much more to do with your phone - almost everything is customizable and there are almost no restrictions, whereas iPhones have many. Don't think I'll be switching back to iPhone anytime soon, I'm extremely happy with my M8! July 10, 2014
