What is HTC Power To Give?
HTC Power To Give is an app that gives you a way to contribute to scientists doing research in many different fields (such as biomedicine, physics and astronomy). Scientific research often requires vast amounts of computing power. HTC Power To Give enables you to include your Android device as part of a distributed computing system when you are not actively using your Android device.
How does HTC Power To Give work?
HTC Power To Give acts as middleware to connect a smartphone to different research projects, enabling the applications from supported projects to run and communicate with their central servers.
Research problems are broken down into many small tasks and distributed across the network of smartphones. When the app runs, it downloads the required project software which then manages the calculations required to process the individual tasks provided. Once complete, the results are uploaded to the central project team servers and a new task is allocated.
How do I get started?
Search for HTC Power To Give in the Google Play Store, and install it. When it launches, you will be asked to select the projects that you want to support. Register for an account to get started.
Processing power is only used (i.e. the app only runs) when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and when plugged in to an external power source (e.g. plug socket, PC and wireless chargers).

Your device’s battery life will not be significantly affected. Furthermore, your recharging time will not be significantly extended.
Will my device get overheated?
The default maximum battery temperature is 40°C. If the device temperature reaches 40°C, HTC Power To Give will stop running.
Will participating consume minutes in my mobile data plan?
HTC Power To Give will only be transferring data when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
