Tips and Tricks

From the Today Screen more

See the menu of programs, applications and settings
Press Start.

Customize the Today screen, including the background image
Start> All Programs> Settings> Home Screen

Move cursor or highlight items on the screen
Use the D- Pad.

Open or select items
Highlight the item and press the Center Navigation Button.

Open Phone Screen
Press the green Send/Talk button

Make call
Dial the number using the QWERTY (or select from Contacts) and press the green Send/Talk button

Call selected name or number
Go into Contacts, highlight the contact and press Send/Talk Button

Turn mute on/off during call
Select Menu> Mute or Menu> Unmute

Switch between Speakerphone and earpiece during a call
Select Menu>Speakerphone On or Menu> Speakerphone Off

Change volume during a call
During a call or when playing music, press the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons located on the left side of the device to adjust the sound volume

Adjust the ringer volume
When receiving an incoming call, press the Volume Down button to silence the ringer

Lock /Unlock the device screen and keys
To Lock: Press the Power Button to access the Quick List. Select Lock from the list or press & hold the "End Call" key and choose "lock" from Menu To Unlock: Press Unlock followed by "*"

Change font size to see more/less content on the screen
Start>Settings> More> Accessibility> System Font size. Note: Text size may not be changed in all programs

Return to the Today Screen
Press the Home Button

Change the sleep settings
Start>Settings> Home Screen> Time Out

Switch from sleep mode
Press the Power button once.

Typing more

Type a single uppercase letter
Press Caps button and then the corresponding key.

Type all uppercase letters
Press Caps button twice

Enter a number or symbol
Press Function key and then the corresponding key

Open the Start Menu
From the Home Screen, press the soft Start button

Perform command shown on screen above the key
Press left or right soft key.

Calendar & Contacts more

View or edit calendar appointment
Select Appointments from the Home Screen, select the appointment and press Menu> Edit

Add a new calendar entry
Select Appointments from the Home Screen , select Day/Week/Month> Select New appointment > enter the desired information, then select Appointment > Done

Delete an appointment
Select Appointment > Menu> Delete Appointment

Move between days
Use the D-Pad to move left or right through the days of the week

Add a picture or assign a ring tone to a New contact
From the Home Screen, press Contacts. Press New and enter the contact information. In the list of contact information, you’ll see where you can add a picture or assign a ring tone to a contact. When finished, press Done

Create a contact from Call History
Select the phone number and press Save

Messaging more

Access the mailbox
Use the D- Pad to move down the Home Screen to Email and then press the Center Navigation Button or press the Envelope Button located to the left of the Space Bar

Open the selected message
Highlight the message and press the Center Navigation Button

Compose new message
From within the mailbox, press Menu>New

Reply to message
Press Menu> Reply> Reply

Reply to all
Press Menu> Reply> Reply to all

Forward message
Press Menu> Reply> Forward

View text messages
Use the D- Pad to move down the Home Screen to Messages and then press the Center Navigation Button

Quickly add common phrases to IM messages
Press Menu > My Text > Select a phrase in the list

View phone call logs
Phone > Scroll down through past calls

Access addresses and phone numbers from Contacts
From the Home Screen press Contacts

Quickly add common messages
Press Menu > My Text and select a desired message

Check voice mail messages
Press and hold the 1 key, follow prompts

Set the message priority (Not available for SMS)
MMS: from within the message template, Press Menu > Options>Send Options Email: from within the message, Press Menu> Options> Message Options Always include the original message, from the list view From within the mailbox, select Menu > Tools > Options > Sending > Select "include copy of message when replying to e-mail"

General Tips more

Soft Reset
Power the device off and remove the battery for 10 seconds

Hard (Factory) Reset
Select Start > All Programs> More> More> Accessories> Clear Storage and type 1234 in the box and Press Yes. Note: This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory settings

Send a Digital Photo or video
Start> All Programs> More> Mores> Pictures & Videos, highlight the item to be sent and press Menu> Send and select email account you wish to use

Turn On/Off Bluetooth
Start> All Programs> More> More> More> Comm Manager> Highlight Bluetooth and select Enable/Disable

Turn On/Off Wi-Fi
Start> All Programs> More> More> More> Comm Manager> Highlight Wi-Fi and select Enable/Disable

Turn On/Off flight mode
Start> All Programs> More> More> More> Comm Manager> Highlight Airplane Mode and select Enable/Disable

Modify the backlight time-out period
Start>Settings>More>Power>Power Management

Close running programs and/or to free up additional memory
Start>All Programs>More>More>Task Manager and close applications that are not in use

Change the ring tone
Start>All Programs>Settings>Sounds>select the category>Select file from drop down

Open Browser
Press Start> All Programs> Internet Explorer

Browse to Web address
Type in Web address in address bar that appears at top of screen.

Set a Home page
Internet Explorer screen, enter the desired Web page address and then Press the green arrow to go to the page. Press Menu > Tools > Options > Home Page.

Do one of the following:
To use the default Home page, Default Home Page
To use the displayed page as the Home page, select Use Current
