- What does a Hard Reset do and how is it performed? more
- A Hard Reset (aka factory data reset) removes all information from your device and returns it to a state just like it has never been used before. The Hard Reset will erase all your data and require you to go through set up screens. This process will take around 5 minutes. From the Home screen, press the Menu key > Touch Settings > Touch and slide screen upward and touch SD card & phone storage > touch Factory data reset > touch Reset phone. Was this helpful? Yes | No
- When should I perform a Hard Reset? more
-
A hard reset basically returns your device RAM to factory conditions, the device is restored to its default settings – the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on.
Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain. This is a drastic step, and should only be taken in the event that there is some kind of hardware failure, gross system error, or if you want to remove all of your data from the device. A Hard Reset should only be done if nothing else worked to recover your device. Was this helpful? Yes | No - What is a Soft Reset and how is it performed? more
-
A soft reset basically resets the memory structure in the handheld. This recovers the device from memory conflicts, corrupted system service chains (mainly due to attempting hacks), memory leaks, and system lockups due to the “Fatal Exception” program errors. Removing the battery from the device while it is still powered on is NOT a soft reset and can actually damage the device.
A Soft Reset is performed by:
Powering the device OFF.
Remove the battery for 10 seconds.
Re-insert the battery and power the device on. Was this helpful? Yes | No - My device won't recognize my SIM more
