Please note that during the update process, your user data will be retained, however, we still advise you to back up your information, including contacts and calendar appointments. You can use HTC Sync to back up your information. This software will be installed over the air through your data connection on your phone. You may choose to update via Wi-Fi if a Wi-Fi hotspot is available. You will get a notification on your phone say that you have an update available.

Instructions:

The HTC Desire is designed to check for a Firmware update every 7 days. This is done automatically. You can also check for the Software update manually. Go to Settings > About phone > System software update > Check now. The firmware update is also designed to retain User information. Most user information will be retained. However, we still recommend you perform a back up before you proceed with the update. A Micro SD card is necessary for the update to work. Your memory card should have at least 300 megabytes of free space. If a software upgrade is available, you will get the following message:

 

“A system update is available, would you like to download the following system software”

Note: This is a data intensive update, if you don’t have an unlimited data plan we suggest you perform the download using Wi-Fi

You will have the option to download the software Now, or download when you connect to Wi-Fi, or cancel. If you cancel, the device will check again in 7 days or you can manually check for the update.

1.Assuming you have chosen to download the software now or with Wi-Fi you will be prompted when the download is complete and ready to install.

2.You will be prompted to Install Now, or Install Later. Choose Install Now. If you don’t want to install the software immediately, you can Install Later. The install option will always be in the notification bar.

3.The device will reboot into Recovery mode and the software update will begin. The software update takes approximately 10-15 minutes

4.You may notice that during the update process, the progress bar might remain still for a period of time. This is normal. Once the installation is complete, the phone will reboot and your update will be complete.

What is Firmware over the air (FOTA)?

Firmware over the air or FOTA is a convenient way of updating the system software of your android phone. It doesn’t require the device to be plugged into a computer to perform the update. It also allows the phone to retain user information like contacts, calendar, emails, text messages and more.

How does FOTA work?

The HTC Desire routinely checks for software updates. When a software update is available, the phone notifies the user that a new software update is available and prompts the user to download the update file to the phone. Once the user has downloaded the update file, which gets stored into the memory card, the device prompts the user to install the update. After the installation is complete the phone reboots and the device is updated.

What happens if the downloading breaks in the middle?

The download manager is capable of resuming a download. If the downloading is interrupted because of data connection down, or user turns off device, the download will resume as soon as the next time getting the data connection back.

What happens if the installation breaks in the middle?

The FOTA installation is performed in the Recovery mode; there is no way for users to interrupt the process unless the device runs out of battery. In such cases the device can still reboot into Recovery mode and restart or resume the installation when the battery is back.

What is the FOTA behavior in roaming mode?

In roaming mode if the data connection is through 3G/GPRS, all check-ins and downloads will be blocked. If Wi-Fi connection is available then the checking and downloading can still work.

Installation Instructions

1. Click Download below to download “HTC Sync™ 2.0.38” to your PC.
2. Double click on the “HTC Sync™ 2.0.38” file to install it on your PC following the onscreen prompts.
   • Note: The installation process can take up to several minutes to complete. It is recommended that you close all programs on your PC and temporarily exit your anti-virus program prior to starting the installation program and do not open any applications or files while the installation is in process.
3. Once the installation is complete, launch the HTC Sync™ software.
4. Connect your device to your PC using the USB data cable that came with the device.
   • If your device is not connected to the PC there will be a sync failure
5. Once connected, on your device, check Notifications on the status bar to confirm HTC Sync™ recognizes the device.
6. The first time you synchronize the device, the Synchronization Settings Wizard will start automatically to help you set up HTC Sync™.
   • If the Synchronization Settings Wizard does not start, click Synchronize Now on the HTC Sync™ screen to launch the Wizard.
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the HTC Sync™ configuration; once this is complete, the device will begin to sync.
   • After the first sync, to start syncing your device to your computer, pull down the notifications bar on the device and tap “Synchronize your device with Windows” to connect to the PC

You can use HTC Sync™ to synchronize Outlook contacts and calendar or Outlook Express contacts and the bookmarks of web browser between your computer and your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and bring your photos, videos, documents, songs, and playlists to your phone.

4. Installation Instructions

 1. Select the file "HTC Sync" & a location closest to you then Click Download below to download “Setup_3.0.5511.exe” to your PC.

2. Run “Setup_3.0.5511.exe” to install it to your PC, and follow the Install Shield Wizard to finish the installation.

(Suggestion: Please close all running programs and temporarily exit your anti-virus program when you install the HTC Sync)

3. Select the “Complete” Setup Type for faster and easier installation process, and then press “Install” to begin the installation. (For advanced users you could choose “Custom” to change the pre-defined shortcuts and the installed application folder path by your own.)

4. After you saw the Install Shield Wizard Completed, please press “Finish” to exit the Wizard.

Start to use HTC Sync

1. Use the USB cable to connect your phone to the PC

2. When your phone prompts you to choose a type of USB connection, tap HTC Sync, and then tap Done.

3. Wait for HTC Sync to recognize your phone. On the Device setup screen, enter a name for your phone.

4. Click Save. The Device panel then opens. On the Device panel, you can set your sync options, see your phone's general information, check the used and available space on your storage card, and begin synchronization.

Tips 1:

If you cannot see the HTC Sync option when you connect your phone to the computer via USB, please follow the

Instructions below:

1.  Make sure you select USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development before connecting your phone to the computer

2.  Connect you Phone to the PC and wait 20 seconds for your phone to install HTC Sync on your phone.

3.  Unplug the USB sync cable.  Wait for 5 seconds.  Reconnect the Phone to the PC using the USB cable.

4.  Select “HTC sync” and wait for HTC Sync to recognize your Phone.  This process could take up to a minute your first time connecting to the computer.

Tip 2:

For best HTC Sync performance on your PC/ Notebook, we suggest you uninstall all previous versions of HTC Sync 2.0 before upgrading to HTC Sync 3.0.
